First Run in Otome Games: With or Without a Walkthrough?

i get very nervous without a walkthrough - i find myself easily frustrated when playing games normally, so i prefer to have a 100% walkthrough even if it spoils plot points.

I used to play games entirely through 'blind choices,' but now I find myself using walkthroughs more often (spoiler-free ones, of course). This is especially true for complex games that are nearly impossible to navigate properly without a flowchart :chuuni_kira:

i personally prefer using a walkthrough bc i like going through routes and their endings in certain orders. for ex- i usually try to get all the bad endings in a route before moving onto the good/normal ones

I usually prefer playing without guides, since even seeing the choices can feel like spoilers. That said, some games make it almost impossible to understand what the choices actually mean. In those cases, I do end up checking a guide. Replaying the same sections over and over and saving at every choice just to see my favorite character's story really takes away a lot of the fun for me.

i used to play blindly without any guides but i always somehow get the bad endings first T T. i like playing with guides since i like to go with recommended route orders (and saving best for last) and being able to get the best endings first and also get the game to 100% as much as i can ^^

I don't know if this is common, but I like to play through the game like I'm the heroine (what I think their personality is, anyway) and try to see if I can get the best ending from that. If it doesn't work, I like to follow a walkthrough and do the best ending first :>>

I'm always use walkthroughs. I got burned by nonsensical or not intuitive choices in my several first games when I was just beginning to read VN lol Also, it saves time and gives me control over which routes and endings I get. I'm basically either skipping bad (and sometimes normal) endings entirely, or go in bad -> normal -> good order.

If the VN is long I use on my second play, but on short ones I like try to my luck doing it alone.

It really depends on the game.

At first, I'd just play through blindly until I reached the first ending, and then I'd try to collect everything. But I realized that method isn't very efficient. Nowadays, I mostly play while following a walkthrough.

I really hate bad endings. I usually get those out of the way first, then go for the good endings.

But whenever I try to go in blind, I always end up with a game over... It's so sad. :lapi_broken:

It depends. If the game system has nice QOL features like skip-to-next-choice, then definitely blind. But some games like Haruka3 are impossible to play without a walkthrough...

I absolutely will look up a walkthrough.
Because if I get a bad ending on my first playthrough, that negative impression will haunt me forever.
First, I'll savor the happy ending to the fullest. Then, I'll steel myself and take on the bad endings.

Same here, I always look up walkthroughs before playing games—it helps me experience all the content and endings as quickly and completely as possible. Maybe it's because I don't really care much about gameplay mechanics; what I'm most interested in is the story the creator wants to tell.

With walkthrough, i always cry with bad endings, my heart can't take sad stories at first gameplay,

Definitely going to use a walkthrough if I can find one. You get the same story and it's a lot more efficient that way. It's also easier to just play the routes you want.

I rely on walkthroughs from beginning to end since they save time and let me play more games, but sometimes it feels like it takes away from the depth of the experience.

games like virche or itehari have a wacky system so if i get a game over on my first time im opening a walkthrough right up 🤪 plus i just wanna save my time to read

Without a walkthrough! I like to play through things blindly and get surprised with my choices on my own first. I will only use a walkthrough if I get stuck or have missing CGs.

With walktrough. Especually for longer game with intricate plots and multiple ends. I just get too anxious if I choose the "bad" option by mistake

If i'm aiming for a specific LI, i will use walkthrough on my first run. But sometimes i'm too lazy to refer to walkthrough, especially if I have the love catch on. So i just roll with it and guess the choices. If affection indicator pops up, i know i picked the right one. If it doesn't appear, that means i messed up so i just reload my last save and try again. It is lowkey inconvenient for me to keep grabbing my phone again and again just to check the correct choices when my hands are already occupied with controller :/

No walkthroughs for every playthrough! I know the probability of encountering a bad ending is high, but that's the kind of risk I like. For me, it's gone from fear to excitement; the point is to wait for the game to surprise me. Give me your worst bad ending, that's what I'm here for!! ᕙ(@°▽°@)ᕗ

Always with walkthrough! I want to achieve good endings first so I need to know which right choices I need to pick. Also in my opinion, walkthrough and guides (esp with spoilers) doesn't ruin my experience—if anything, makes the game feels more immersive... Can't explain it properly but having prior knowledge helps me understand even more the reason behind each character's behavior 🙇‍♀️

When I first start playing, I don't bother with guides. After playing through one or two character routes, I usually start checking guides.

When I'm feeling lazy, I'll just skip straight to the guides.

Translated using a machine translator. Apologies for any errors. :P

For first playthrough I play it blind! I use guide for the recommended order of the route for what LI to go first for story purpose and (if I'm not lazy) to get different endings

I always get bummed whenever I get a bad ending so I started to do walkthroughs most of the time.
