That depends on which VPN you use. Try Pronto VPN. It's quite handy, but the downside is there are alot of ads.

Using MegaBasterd. It's not perfect and whether you'd be able to get data from the proxy list is RNG, but it's way better than downloading it on the browser. It's the best option if you don't want to pay for vpn.

my problem is at finding a good free proxy list.

Proton VPN works good enough for me since I don't download that much over MEGA and the only ad you see happens one per day.
Also doesn't affect speed limit, still getting constant 5MB/s

Well, you either compromise on time and convenience or pay for Mega/VPN.
Also bump Proton, little to none speed penalty within your continent

PrivateInternetAccess or just PIA is also pretty perfect. No issues for me and it works on Linux flawlessly. And I actually trust them.
