  1. How do you sit/lie down when playing otome games? I'm curious what other people's playing set-up is like.

I find the Switch screen too small for some games (like b-pro) so I like to play in docked mode, hooked up to my pc monitor. And just like with pc games, I usually sit cross legged on my office chair. It's hard to sit still for long sessions so I tend to get up to do something else around the...
  2. Do you read reviews? What's important to you in a review?

I also only read reviews after playing the game, mostly to stay as spoiler-free as possible. I don't want the review to affect my perception or expectations going in, so that's why I prefer after, once I've already formed my own opinion and thoughts on the game. If I were to think of an...
  3. Do you prefer younger Lls, older LIs, or characters around the MC's age?

Around the same age > younger > older would be my preference, I think. I don't normally take notice of their age since anime art styles tend to make most characters look fairly young regardless of their actual age, unless they've got facial hair or something. I guess since most older LIs tend to...
  4. What are your least favorite routes?

Not of all time, just a recent one, but I'd say Dante from Piofiore. I played his route after Yang's based on Otome Kitten's rec route order and man did his route feel bland in comparison. I liked the guy and felt bad for him in other routes but his route had for like half of the route that...
  5. Thoughts on shota/youger li?

I like younger LIs, esp when they try to act more mature to make up for being younger in age and their lack of height lol. But younger LIs that don't LOOK younger than MC are just kinda whatever, sometimes I forget that they're the token younger character if it's not apparent in the way they...
  6. How long is too long for a common route before you get bored?

Maybe 15-20% of the entire game, assuming there's like 5-6 routes. If a game is 55-60 hrs long for the average player, that's like anything between 8-20 hrs (sweet spot of 14 hrs)... which seems like a lot, but comparatively is not that bad
  7. Research for Game Making - What Do You Guys Enjoy about Otome/ Interactive Fiction Games?

I like character customization too! I notice that most devs either put most of their efforts in the appearance (usually mc's sprite, not cgs) or the personality (lots of choices for roleplaying). I guess it depends on whether your strengths lie in writing or art, but I generally don't expect a...
  8. What are your favorite indie VNs? - Otome, Amare, and BL

I don't have any recent favorites since a lot of the ones I've tried are demos, but these are ones I've enjoyed a lot in the past and have set the standard for me personally. oelvns: a2 aloners (redux) autumn's journey knife of the traitor memoirs of an angel our life: beginnings and always...
  9. How many otome/bl games do you finish per year?

Last year I think it was an average of one commercial otome game per month, but I have yet to finish a single one this year... I find it easier to do my dailies (aka, do lessons/battles, "visit" friends/allies, and use the five daily tickets to read about 5-10 mins worth of story) for a couple...
  10. Current favorite otome seiyuu (voice actor)

Ichijou Hirame is the GOAT, like what? Aside from having a great voice, he writes his own scripts for monoblue? And he's streamed tmgs4 on his yt channel before? AND he can play the drums? The dude's after my own heart man But like everyone else here, I also like Mitsuhashi Wataru. He never...
  11. otome settings/careers/concepts you'd like to see more of

An otome game with cooking mini-games a la cooking mama, waku waku sweets, etc. would be neat. The way to a man's heart is through his stomach or whatever, but really, I think any career-oriented otome game would be fun. Like, fishing could be cool too. Just anything other than farming...
  12. Have you ever played a kinetic otome game?

I've played a couple of otome kinetic novels by Koyonplete. Most of them used adv but there was one that was completely nvl (no sprites, only text, sometimes had cgs). The nvl one read a lot like a novel and even had pov changes to the guy which was kinda nice but I think I still prefer vns over...
  13. Historical otome games like Hakuoki

It has english text w/ full zh voice acting! The translation is pretty good, from what I remember
  14. Do you guys keep notes on your thoughts after playing otome games?

I don't have the attention span to be able to juggle playing and taking notes, nor the patience to sit down and reflect after a play session (also, my brain is empty when I play, so there is no thoughts to write down lol). The bare minimum I do in reflecting is rate the game on vndb, but reading...
  15. Historical otome games like Hakuoki

If you're okay with non-jp historical, I'd rec My Vow to My Liege. The worldbuilding and story feels very grand and epic, kinda c-drama-ish if you know what I mean. The MC is also a highlight of the game, love love love her. Def one of the best MCs in otome games imo
