One of the first games I played was 9R.I.P. Even If: Tempest is a nice introduction to a /subset/ of otome games (more plot-focused than romance), so I do recommend it. Overall, though, I think you can really play any otome you want right away... Taisho X Alice is also wonderful. It must've...

I try not to take breaks, but if i did- 100% restart... I can't afford to jeopardize my game experience by not remembering the plot!! But i have bad memory issues, so maybe I'm biased?
