i dont thinks that MPC-HC needs additional codec pack since its have everything. but RealAlternative may required to play some unsupported Real video. MPC-HC is the light player. if you want the heavy video player, you can try SMPlayer, KMPlayer, VLC, etc

Microsoft Security Essential works best with windows computers. also its free for genuine user. i dont trust the antivirus that require payment. because they have limit their protection based on how much you pay like AVG Free, Kaspersky, etc anyway, norton is the worst
