I'm not entirely sure but I'd guess that it makes it harder for authors & trolls to find out that content is being shared here, I.e. it makes takedowns less likely but I could be wrong about that, shrug.

I think the corrupted during upload but it's still usable. I was able to extract it by pulling up the 'part' of the file that updates during download and opening that with 7z. From there I just pulled out the video np but the actual, proper 'downloaded' file was empty.
