Would you skip an otome game just because of a character or a plot point you really dislike?

I feel you on the backlog. I'm at the point now where I'll skip a game if the plot doesn't sound interesting enough to me- not even a plot point I really just dislike, but just sounds kind of eh, or if it has no characters I'm too interested in. You could be missing some hidden diamonds, sure, but you could also be saving yourself from investing in something that you didn't think you would fancy anyways. It might be a good idea to check out some spoiler free reviews if you're that worried! You still might miss out on some, because just because it has a meh review doesn't mean it won't be a gem to you, but it still might save you from others!

It depends. If this is main's story plot point - I'll skip game entirely, but if it's just one character - I'll skip just his route. No matter what kind of crutial information was revealed there, it's not quantum physics, so it'll be possible to understand other story without some portion of information.

And it seems huge backlog and little time is everyone's problem as well...

Not really, but I won't prioritize it in my backlog unless I get a recommendation. I'm a completionist, so I never skip routes, even when I'm not particularly into them lol. I'm used to heavier topics though, so I don't really get uncomfortable with any themes

For me it depends on whether or not the plot point is crucial to the story or not. If it's like a side thing that doesn't really affect the story, them i will play the game, but if not then I will skip it. Nowedays, there are so many otome games whether by indie companies or by bigger ones, so its very easy to just skip a game

Hmm not really, unless the whole story or world building is terrible. (I'm looking at you Paradigm Paradox)

Usually i will see the average score in VNDB as reference XD
If the score is 7+ i will give it a try even if the plot is not my taste, also i will give a try to those with a really good visual :B even if the story is just ????? i will continue until finish it and then leave my score in VNDB HAHAHA

I never skip. That is because I don't want to miss any story elements. However, there are times when I find it boring. At those times, I set the text to display at high speed, mash the button repeatedly, and read through it quickly.

not really, i've never run into anything that was enough of a dealbreaker to skip a whole game. if i really hate a character i'll speed through their route when going through for completion but i still finish it. but in my opinion, forcing yourself through something that makes you uncomfortable or makes an otome unenjoyable just isn't worth it. there are likely different ones out there you might enjoy spending your limited free time on more! not every otome works for every person and there is definitely nothing wrong with not enjoying one even if it's popular.

Hmm, I don't think so honestly unless the story is just that bad (which I haven't ran into yet but even then I think I'd do my best to give it a shot) but I wouldn't skip a otome game just because of one character in story.

If I dislike a character this much I would just not play the route, I don't like forcing myself to play something I don't like, it prevents me from enjoying the game to its fullest.

I never skip anything in otomes. I just start reading faster because if I don't 100% complete it, I can't go on to a new route or game since I know I still have something unfinished.

I don't think I've ever skipped anything?? Though I should've that one time I was playing cupid parasite's Allan's route lmao. It takes me a really long time to move on from certain routes if they impacted me too much/I loved the character too much though?? But I usually do go back to finishing them. It's happening to me rn with Folie Fatale and Kanoe's route. First route and I can't move onnnn so if I never went back to the game then... I guess I'd be skipping everything else?

I keep hearing bad things about Cupid Parasite and it makes me nervous haha, I thought Allan was everyone's favorite.

I usually don't skip a game without at least trying it first—you never know until you play!
But if there's a character I really can't stand, I'll sometimes speed through or skip their route.
The worst is when their route is required to unlock my favorite character lol.
In those cases, I just mash through it as fast as possible to get to the story and characters I actually care about.

I don't like missing out on context on parts I skip and I have a lot of patience, so there's not much that's going to make me skip through parts of a game, but I might like speed read through it if it gets super boring lol

Oh he is a fan favorite for some reason I can't comprehend. I found his route dull and annoying, and couldn't empathize with him in the slightest. But the popular opinion is that he's so devoted!! His story is so moving!!! But I couldn't see it lmaoooo. I enjoyed Ryuki and Shelby most in the game. Raul and Gil were okay too.

I'll skip if the plot irritates me or it's just not resonating with me. I know a lot of people love Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly and the Ashen Hawk but I couldn't stand it even getting through one route was enough. It wasn't even the themes as it takes a lot for me to get me unnerve. I can't really explain it well maybe it was how the story was structure either way I dropped those two. Another one is if I can't stand the Heroine if she is too stupid to do obvious things or preachy that it becomes annoying. Lucky there aren't too many otomes that has me drop them only a handful of them.

I usually give otome games a fair shot, especially if the character introductions feature a lead who catches my eye—I definitely have to give it a taste. If the plot and setting just don't vibe with me (don't "hit my wavelength"), I'll drop it.
In most cases, I just skip certain individual routes. Regardless of whether a route is locked or not, I usually try to skim the story because you never know when there might be a pleasant surprise. For example, in Birushana: Rising Flower of Genji, I felt nothing for Benkei, but Tomomori's presence in that route was absolutely chef's kiss!
Of course, there are "shocks" too. Take Eve's route in Virche Evermore: the sub-character Hugo... I truly don't understand who they're trying to appeal to by shoving BL elements into an otome game. It was so off-putting that it even soured my feelings toward Eve himself.

Absolutely. I dropped Variable Barricade cause of nayuta's route. I thought for the longest time I could just get through stuff even if its not my favorite trope/route but that showed me; I in fact can not. ▔\▁((.′◔_′◔.))▁/▔

Regarding the characters, I won't drop the game. Maybe I'll take a long break, like I'm doing with Mizuhito's route in Butterfly's Poison, since I'm not a big fan of romantic routes between siblings/half-siblings, but I do intend to come back soon when I feel more prepared to do his route. Now, regarding the plot, if I find the plot incoherent or don't like it, as was the case with Sympathy Kiss and Tengoku Struggle, I will drop it, yes

Yes if the problem is the plot, but if it's 1-2 characters, I'd skip them and play the rest
