What do you think about handsome male characters you can’t date?

I'm still on my first route in Olympia Soiree (Riku), and the art is so crazy good! Everyone looks so attractive and some of them are even really kind. It doesn't help that I really love the color green, and I'm just weak to characters following that color scheme.

Kaina in particular is someone I am grieving, but I understand why a route with him would be a hard ground to tread, even if it were just brief or ambiguous. Like for most of the handsome non-dateables, I will just yearn 😭. Who knows, maybe the demand would be really good someday. I wished really hard for Jaehyun Kim in Mystic Messenger, and we got him so... Hope unconsciously but never actively seek it HAHA.

They particularly did us dirty with Roberto!! Considering besides hot, he also had a crush on Lili…any side characters who are like that and don't get routes even in the FDs is just mean…
Feel similarly about Adam from Bustafellows cuz of this too…

A lot of the times the hot side characters aren't as charming so I don't mind (like in Neon Clash), but I remember being super upset that Narukami from Uchronia never got a route😭He's hotter than most of the LIs and has one of the hottest Hino Satoshi tones I've heard!! Plus they even have fan service for him…yet they dared to not give him even an ending, let alone a route.

That's why I really appreciate games like Olympia Soiree and Birushana that at least give side characters fan service endings! (Birushana's FD went to develop full routes that is even better)
 
I don't really mind, but I think it's a little evil to make them romanceable through fandiscs and not the actual main game. I usually take a moment to paw at the screen in mild agony before moving on.
 
I hope their routes are included in FD. I'm currently playing Jack Jeanne and really love Tanakamigi. T T
 
Guys who can't be won over are very attractive, so I would really look forward to an FD coming out after the main game.
 
If every sub character is written this magnetic, that's honestly kind of stressful... lol
hana awase's Ime is seriously the kind of character that just makes you want to give them a big hug —
such a warm, sunshine personality, really healing.
Her interactions with the heroine are so sweet and adorable.
I really wish he had his own route...

I get having attractive side characters but if the dev's also give them such an interesting backstory on top of that - it sometimes just feels like they're purposely being mean...

I haven't finished playing Collar x Malice but ... Saeki. I'm so disappointed he doesn't have his own route.
 
There are so many characters I feel this way about… Sometimes I hope for a possible new route in an FD, but there are other times where it's near hopeless because they have a canon relationship with another character or some plot-relevant reason.

Although, this didn't stop Cupid Parasite. I'm admittedly someone who thought Owen was cute; however, I did actually enjoy the whole process of setting him up with Melanie in Ryuki's route of the original game. So, I was quite shocked to see him get a mini-route in the FD—I'm not complaining, though.

Anyway, I'm still hung up on Kasuga from Variable Barricade after all these years.
 
Honestly, sometimes I strongly suspect the development team did it on purpose! They deliberately stuff a devastatingly handsome guy into the background, only to cross him off your character's progress. This isn't game development; it's practically psychological bullying!

I cannot stand when they create the most beautiful sweetest cutest boy ever and i'm NOT ALLOWED TO DATE HIM????
I forgive it if he already has a boyfriend but i'm desperate for him to have love in his life </3
 
Nah cause why do they do that fr like they make a character with such good looks, voice, personality and lore only to make them a supporting character with no route. I can only thank the devs who really listen to their fan base and make a special route in later sequels like with radiant tale and steam prison

I know, right? At least try to make them ugly so I don't yearn as much
 
Mostly ok, but sometimes, when it's the sweetest cinnamon roll or, you know slightly older gentleman - I sulk)


Characters like Rindou Kaoru from Gensou Kissa Enchanté belong to this trope too often.
 
I'm so pissed when that happens! Why are you giving me these guys when there's someone that fits my taste better?! I kept taking pictures and screenshots of the guy with his avrious expressions...haaa, forbidden fruits are always tasty.

Play the game plugged into a TV and stand there admiring their few scenes to get the full immersion if really can't play them. Think this is why I was pleasantly surprised ended up on "side characters" mini routes in Birushana and Sympathy Kiss when going in blind about the mini routes.
 
Sometimes it gets me sad! For example, I was so disappointed when I found out you couldn't romance Adam in Bustafellows. He didn't even show up in the second game. There's a bunch of lost potential but like I guess we can't have everything we want.
 
I will long for the dlc or sequel that will never come to us to romance those characters but I'll still be happy to at least see them in the game.
 
Yearning intensifies . It's like torture ! Agony ! How can you create these beautiful and interesting characters and they are off-limits ? How can you do this to me ?! .
I know some creators do it on purpose ... how and why are they so mean to us ? :cry:

It's such a shame because the characters I like most out of an otome end up being non-romanceable... It feels more like a waste to make such a handsome character and then not have a route for them.
