Strange, do you have the most recent update for VNR? If you have the option under "Features" that says "Auto update shared dictionary" then you most likely have the most recent update if you don't have that option message me and I'll see if I can find a link for the update.

Start VNR, do NOT start the game yet.

Go to Preferences->Embedded
Preferred game text extraction method - CHECK 'Use VNR's built-in hook instead of ITH if possible'

If, like me, you don't want to use embedded translation in the game Disable everything under 'Preferred text to embed in the game'

Using the Spring Board for VNR, start up the game .exe

Begin the game, get to the point where text is showing on screen, go to the menu and turn on 'Copy text to clipboard' (Ignore this is you just want to use Embedded text)

That got me to the point where I have text safely hooking into Translation Aggregator with the full string being translated.

I'm sorry if I'm not terribly clear, but it's kinda rough to explain exactly. The key thing that tripped me up is I had to tell VNR to Use VNR's built-in hook (under Embedded) before I loaded the game - if I didn't, the text was messed up.

I had to do the same. I agree with you 100%. The ITH hook is all fucked up. This is the easiest way to get it to hook without debugging and making an H-Code.

yes, i dont use any 3rd party programs. just downloaded it, installed and played. i do have my pc region set to japanese but not sure if this game requires that.

Wow, is there really no way to get this hooked through AGTH? I really dislike using VNR (it has a lot of functionality but I always stumble with it), and I want to use my own translation libraries if possible on top of that.

It seems like it'd be possible to determine the hook code from VNR...

Use Textractor or take H-code that Textractor uses (as shown in the text thread dropdown list, but add missing "/" before it) from there to the text hooker of your choice.

That H-code will spawn tons of garbage threads once you enter the message log, so you can improve it by changing "HB8*4:1E8@" part to "HB-8*4:-18*4@", for example:
HB8*4:1E8@FE23C:kf3if.exe (as shown in Textractor) -> /HB-8*4:-18*4@FE23C:kf3if.exe (fixed)

The address in the H-code above (FE23C) is for the trial version and may not work with the full version; if it doesn't work, take the full game's address from Textractor's or ITH's built-in WAFFLE hooks (they use the same address but ITH will crash when you advance the text, so take it from ITH's Hook Editor immediately after attaching ITH to the game). Subcontexts (1E8 or -18*4) will split the speaker's name from his/her spoken line into another text thread.
