The benefits of Torrent is that it is downloadable in one piece ...

The disadvantages are that the torrent download speed is not constant and that may arrive incomplete ...

I would like to download rather piecemeal because it is safer ...

I do agree that downloading by use of a torrent provides many to 'share person to person'. If there are enough seeders, it may allow the user to retrieve his/her download much faster.

Sometimes, there are no seeders. This makes the torrent almost worthless.

Direct downloading is good to download piece by piece. Although, with a torrent you can 'pause' the download.

Still, direct downloading those individual parts may help in case your internet is slow.

Personally, I have no problems so far. Also, it is up to the uploader pertaining to downloading, format, etc.

Mhh i like torrent download more the point with no constant dl rate you can not say that it is always so it depends on the uploader and the Leechers im using torrents for 5 years now and never had an incomplete file except there were no seed

downloading in parts for me is more pain lol since im useing wifi when i get disconected i have to download the coplete part again and there is this "restart router" stuff

i think both ways have pros and contras

Direct downloads have waiting times. Their speeds are now capped unless you have a premium account. You have to go through a long process before downloading them and usually the links are lost forever when dead. Websites with direct downloads do not have the option to resume once paused save for a few.

Torrents are the opposite of what I've just said, faster speeds, can be paused and resumed whenever, and someone will always have the file so you can reseed. The only downside as others have mentioned is that you'll need someone on the other side to 'seed' you the file where as direct downloads can be downloaded once uploaded to a site as it is stored on memory.

I'll always prefer torrents over direct downloads after Megaupload disappeared.

I agree with AhGwee's opinion. There were three (afair) really pleasant filehoster for free user, Megaupload, Rapidshare and MediaFire, but Megaupload disappeared and Rapidshare limited the download speed to 30 kb/s for free user (if I'm not wrong) ... atm, there's only MediaFire with a download speed nearly as fast as a torrent (at least in my case). Fastest torrent I've ever loaded was with 1,3 mb/s ... my average download speed from MediaFire are 1,1 mb/s. ... this is good for downloader, but there are no rewards for the uploaders.

The other filehoster only have a low download speed for free user (about 200 kb/s, if at all), but most of them reward the uploaders for a certain number of downloads.

The result: Uploader are using filehoster which give rewards. The filehoster can afford it to limit the download speed to a minimum for free user, because the chance is very low that someone upload the same content on a filehoster with no reward, but with higher download speed, where the uploaders don't get anything. In the end, the filehoster think this "free-user" buy a premium account, from which the filehosters gain their money ... that's my theory :)

Before a download, I'm looking for MediaFire-links, if there isn't one, I'm using torrents :) If there isn't a torrent, I'm using other dd-links :D

Hmm media fire does have quite decent downloads though there are problems like file size and the such... things that would annoy uploaders... Other filehosts arent quite as nice with everything... I havent used torrents myself but they may get more appealing in the future when ddls get worse...

Even if i understand whats is your intention with the topic have to say that you could say something more than that.

Torrents: I started to download on the internet using this protocol, just single tracks nothing big, then i hired internet to my home and kept using this method as usual downloading single tracks, i learned the rule of the protocol share it was very simple, but then someone told me that i also could download anime but using another method the DDs and all i learn while using that method i wrote it down below.
Torrents are for sure the method i like most, as member of several private trackers i can say that if people learn to give and not just receive torrents can last a very, very long time.
It all depends of the culture of the users.

Direct Downloads: This is at first sigh the best option if we want to share something, we have several hosts, good download speeds, the files are available in "long periods of time" and they are popular.
Unfortunately this method make us selfish & ungrateful, people got used to just receive and not to give... You can see that effect when you ask to people that only use DDs about Torrents, not something pleasant to hear.
Other effect of the DDs was the complete destruction of a true desire of share just for share, now people wants to earn money with the works of others, in Latinamerica you can see a disagreeable consequence of it, The fail-subs make their release faster as possible just to receive a high number of downloads and earn some cents with that, i am not against the DDs is just that there are some ethic issues i don't share.
Is not like i am sin-free but is because i swan in that dark waters that i am able to see through them.

Torrent: There is nothing bad about it as long as I have my speed but judging by the facts that my service provider throttles torrents, I occasionally think that it is not the best way of downloading stuff unless I don't have a choice. As for private trackers, I find it tough to maintain my download/upload ratio because the upload rate doesn't seem to be moving at all sometimes for certain torrents.

Direct Downloads: I support resumable links! Since there are other internet users who are downloading their stuff via DDL, it is the only way for me to get an equal share of speed by competing with them. No chance for my torrents as it'll slow down to the point of long durations till completion. If you are afraid that the file may be corrupted upon completion, what about the use of a download manager? For the unresumable links, I don't download them unfortunately.

Basically, it depends on the service provider. The fastest and most convenient method of downloading would be the preferable one. No premium or links for direct download, torrent all the way. No access to torrents due to some limitations in education ground, proceed with direct download. If link got blocked, find a way around it or get it from someone else since it's FREE~~ =)

Torrent (P2P)
- Relies heavily on seeder and its health also depend on both the bandwidth and number of seeder/peers.
- Most unrestricted source of media (The files will not be deleted since seeders are similar to hosts)
- Large files usually uses torrent
- Completely free
Cons
- Low/No seeds = slow speeds/dead torrent
- Malware (may be part of the torrent/sent through by peers)

Direct Download (FileSharing Host)
- 24hrs online servers to cater for downloads
- Usually small/split files
- High download speeds (if you have a premium and the no. of users downloading is not too high)
- Almost no chances of malware infection (unless the file is the malware itself)
Cons
- Download/Upload restriction (requires premium for large files (both upload and download)
- Files do not last long (for free accounts (file expire), copyright > delete, account banned)
- Incompatible filesharing hosts (eg. bought a premium for FileFactory but download links to Depositfiles)
- Expensive to buy all premium
- Filehost may not last forever (MU died, FSn and FS closed to private upload and download)

Torrent:
I like how public trackers like bakabt while not requiring registration, have some extras for registered users, and strive to provide with essentially seeded links. Don't know how well it would work for other sites (and operating a busy tracker must be quite $$$).

I can see several factors for success :
- torrent aftercare (individual presentation page, torrent adoption, user feedback)
- e-peen ratio while not discouraging occasional leechers (larger pool translates to longer lifespan)
- fansub groups, ensure properly identified files, thus consistency/uniqueness
