SUMMARY

After the second impact, all that remains of Japan is Tokyo-3, a city that's being attacked by giant creatures that seek to eradicate the human kind, called Angels. After not seeing his father for more than eight years, Shinji Ikari receives a phone call in which he is told to urgently come to the NERV Headquarters, an organization that deals with the destruction of the Angels through the use of giant mechs called Evas. Shinji's objective is to pilot the Eva Unit 01 while teaming up with the Eva Unit 00 pilot, Ayanami Rei.

Thank you for sharing, fantastic quality.

Is anyone else out there having issues with the audio? I've never had any issues before with audio/subtitles etc playing mkv files on my VLC Player (mac). Couldn't manually turn on the audio either, really appreciate any hints.

Since I watched the THORA version I can not say for sure - comments on CGI website indicate that the problem is limited to you.
I am going to blame VLC for it though - the codecs are usually slightly outdated and the whole program a bit buggy. Since I don't know of any decent player for MACs I can't really recommend one, but I will look around and come back to it later.

The new Hi10P encode looks delicious and has (among others) the UTW track included. If you're archiving stuff on HDDs, it's definitely worth the upgrade.

What's the difference between the 10bit and 8bit? I've seen videos with those before, but never understood what they mean.

It's the color depth. Rule of thumb, 10bit (or Hi10P) has less banding and is of higher quality.
 
For those asking about the rebuild this is a direct quote(below) from Amazon for the DVD rebuild version of 1.11. Might want to add this quote to the front page description Corocoro.

"The stunning rebuild of the anime masterpiece is now extended and enhanced with never before seen new animation and 266 visual and audio improvements".


I'm guessing the same applies to 2.22 rebuild

I will have to get the rebuilds myself and re-watch all for missed scenes since I have the original 1.11, 2.22 and 3.33 versions
