In 逆転裁判5(gyakyuten saiban 5), 夕神 迅 calls 成歩堂龍一 as "成の字" .

What is this "-の字" honorific?
Is it meant to be alternative honorific to "氏” or さん or さま?
I have not seen this honorific/name attachment before in my regular studies...

Entry 2 of じ: (言葉や人名の最初の一字に「の字」を加えて)その言葉や人名を遠回しに言う場合に用いる。

To put it simply, 字 is used with the first letter of a word as a roundabout way of mentioning something or someone. (The speaker is expecting that the listener knows what he/she's talking about.)

This is an ancient way of mentioning someone of equal or lower status, also used to address the listener directly. It's similar to ~ちゃん, but a little less polite. I don't think it's an honorific though.

Actually, that's probably right. But really, is there a better place for that bundle of cuteness?

That's probably right, unless he's supposed to be part Chinese. I've seen 字 read azana as a semi-honorific (not sure exactly) for people who are partially/wholly Chinese. I'm not too familiar with the franchise outside of 異議あり! so there's a good chance that doesn't apply.

nah he's supposed to be a "samurai-ish" character, so I guess it makes sense he has an archaic way of speaking
