VPN that can access area locked Japan sites

Does anyone know a reliable way to access (advanced?) area locked websites/files that's been area locked in Japan?

I tried several VPN solutions but none worked. The only thing that worked random Japanese proxies. But the proxies I found were all rather unreliable and sometimes it's difficult to keep a stable connection and complete downloads...

I've been going back on forth between ProtonVPN and SoftEther VPN's VPN Gate public servers. ProtonVPN has two free servers in JP (especially Free#2) that used to work very well but not so much in the last few months. VPN Gate JP servers are kinda reliable, usually it isn't hard to find one stable enough to download a gigabyte or two at decent speed but they are from random people so privacy concerns may arise.

I tried out ProtonVPN and some servers were able to access the webpage like http://uphs2.illusion.jp/ with some of the servers in Japan.
However I still can't access the downloads from Illusion or Waffle. Such as trial.net-ride.com/free/free_dl.php?R_sm_code=745&R_km_url=w168.
I'll take sometime and figure out how to use SoftEther.
