How does one go about installing them? Tried running the setup.exe in each patch folder, but it wouldn't start properly for some reason.

Please, install the original game, and then just manually copy and paste files in both patches in original game folder.

At first - folder with Graphic.arc file... (which is 1.1 version update), and then 6P harem patch (Chip6.arc).
You can not move folders "image", Setup files and "gameicon".

RIO folder includes add01.ws2 and add02.ws2.
