Hello everyone~

If you're reading visual novels and depend on translation programs and text hookers, here's a small guide into the new ITH (Interactive Text Hooker) that has been developed.

I'll update more if there are people who need help with other things. For now, I'll just show the basics of ITH and a few things about Translation Aggregator (TA).

I'm sure there are people who use Chiitrans. That's also another choice, but this thread will focus more on ITH and Translation Aggregator.

Quick Note

- Some of the things in this guide may require ATLAS, a translation program.
- Here is the site for those unfamiliar: http://www.fujitsu.com/global/services/software/translation/atlas/downloads/

Like I mentioned, this small guide is to mainly help people with ITH and TA. I won't go into detail about ATLAS, but I would recommend it for 'quick, overall translations'.

Interactive Text Hooker

1. First thing you should check is when you open ITH and your game...

- Go to ITH and press the 'Process' button.
- Search for the name of your game.
- Click the game's name and click 'Add Profile'. Press 'OK'.

Here's an example below. My game's name is 'PersonA'.

step.png

2. To make sure it's added, go to ITH and press 'Profile'.

Here's an example below. As you can see, the game is added.

step1.png

3. Next, go to ITH and press 'Option'. Make sure these are checked and press 'OK'.

- Auto attach
- Auto insert
- Auto copy to clipboard
- Auto suppress repetition

These enable the translation from Japanese to English and captures the text.

Here's an example below.

step2.png

4. In ITH, insert the hook you have in that rectangular white box.

I'll be using my hook /HW4@42E3A2.

As you can see below, my text is all jumbled repeated Japanese...

step3.png

5. After you type the hook and press 'Enter', you then press 'Hook' on ITH.

Scroll to find your hook. It should be labelled 'UserHook' or labelled with the numbers and letters you inserted as the hook. Then select that hook and press 'OK'.

See below for the example.

Step4.png

6. Click the text/dialogue box in your game or anywhere so ITH can detect/pick up the text with its new hook you inputted.

See below... just click somewhere so ITH can generate your new hook.

step5.png

7. Go back to the front of ITH, and scroll until you find 'UserHook' or whichever new hook you inputted, and pick the hook that corresponds and displays the right text for your game.

See below for the example.

step6.png

Result: It should generate the text like this picture below.

step7.png

8. Go to ITH, and press 'Save'. This saves the hook and makes sure that if you open ITH again, the hook you used will be there the next time you play.

9. Please close/exit ITH. Then open it up again. If you did it correctly, when you press 'Profile', you should see your hook.

Here is an example.

Translation Aggregator

Once you have downloaded TA and saved it in a suitable location, please check the following things to get you started.

1. Please download Mecab and the edict files for Jparser.

Mecab

- Download Mecab here: http://code.google.com/p/mecab/downloads/list
- If you haven't installed Mecab before, download the '.exe' (execution file).
- If you have installed it before, just download the updates with the extensions '.tar.gz'.
- When installing, choose a dictionary other than 'UTF16' like 'UTF8'.

Jparser

- Download Jparser here: http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/edict_doc.html
- Download either 'edict.gz' or 'edict2.gz' or both.
- Decompress it and put it in TA's 'dictionaries' folder.

Please see below if you aren't sure.

la1.png

la2.png

2. Open TA, click 'Tools', and make sure these two things are checked.

- Translate from = Japanese
- Translate to = English

Here's an example just in case.

aggr1.png

aggr2.png

3. If you have done it correctly, you can open TA with ITH and your game running.

As you can see below, Jparser can translate text if you hover over the word. You can see Mecab is functioning and the other translation boxes as well.

Extra Tip for Translation Aggregator

If you would like to see your game's top menu bar in English, please do the following.

1. When you open TA, go to 'Tools', and go to 'Launch Text Hooker'.

If you're not sure, here's a picture.

steps3.png

2. Find your game and double-click it or press 'Open'. Once done, please click 'OK'.

Here's an example. My game is 'PersonA'.

steps4.png

3. Hover over your game's menu bar and it should change to English.

See below for an example.

Solution to Wolf RPG

Give thanks to [MENTION=84482]Abdalmaus[/MENTION] ; and [MENTION=2724]Sakimichi[/MENTION] ; for their time and effort in providing the solution.

1.
/Ks2 should work, but if no one can answer you question I suggest using VNR. https://code.google.com/p/annot-player/
WolfEngine doesn't need any hook codes and the repetitions are already removed.
Plus Chiitrans2 is already an abandonware.
5Kz2tW4fJb.jpg

Go to preferences and do this:

Run the game and Go to options:

2.
Update
If anyone ever run into the same problem as me:
Run the game through agth separately instead of trying to start it from Chii.
Command line I was recommended is: "c:/agth.exe" /c /x3 /kf64:16 /ks2 "game.exe"
Turn on Chii after you set it with the right monitored thread on AGTH.
Check "Enable clipboard monitoring" on Chii and "Check for repeating phrases"
If you're using ChiiTrans2, just run game and select "AGTH inject (...)"

Now I got both software working as I wanted
VNR is perfect for me to play VNs and some other games on fullscreen (specially with widescreen)
And Chii for windowed RPGs!

I take no credit on that solution, I'm not sure if I can mention other forums here.

Is it possible to translate route choices using this as well?
Depends on the game. In some games the choices are translated as well, but in nearly 90% of the games I played it wasn't the case.
But there's a simple way to translate the choices. You just have to search for a walkthrough, then copy the japanese text and Translation Aggregator should show it with the translation, instead of the text from the game. And when you play the game again, it shows the text from the game again ;) Just try it out.

Guys, the new games in the Sono Hanabira series usually work in ITH? Especially the last 3 games.
Try it out. I played SonoHana 10 (Lily Platinum) and it worked, even without a h-code, so I think there should be no problems with the newer ones as well.

I have strange problem with ITH:

When i try attach game (Dies Ira~Acta Est Fabula) ITH just stop working, and i can`t do anything until it show critical error. Strange is that game work perfectlly, but fev days ago it stop working. AGTH don`t work too. Without h-code it don`t hook full text (it hook symbols onyly when they show 1st time), and with h-code it show one of this message: "Error: hook base module not present" (for /HW-10*-8:-10*10@6AE2C:malie2.exe), and "An internal exception occured (Adress: 0x93c50c) Please, contact [email protected]. Thank you!" (for /HW-10*-8:-10*10@6AE2C:malie.exe). With /HW-10*-8:-10*10@6AE2C:malie2.exe game statr but i still have onyly old module, but with /HW-10*-8:-10*10@6AE2C:malie.exe game just crash and close.

P.S.
Mayby this have something with game which i install, becouse i install 2 games from one producer. anfter 1st old ITH ver. stop work, and 3.0 show window with error, and after 2nd game all ITH ver. stop work pernamently. Games are requirem Memento Mori, and Ragnarok II. I use windows XP.

Have you tried reinstalling ITH and the games again? And is it possible that you have downloaded a Windows Update between the time where it worked last time and the first time it didn't work anymore?

I try to reinstal ITH and game (BTW it don`t work with any game. For example Daiteikoku don`t attach. I can attach it, ITH show its attached, but module don`t exist. Then when i look to process window i can attach again, and again, and again...). I don`t think i update windows. I update avast, java, etc., but not windows.

P.S.
Mayby someone remember how to do /pn command to agth? mayby this will help. I add /pnmalie.exe after running game, and then i can use code, but it still don`t add any module.

Ok, now I have one more question: I'm playing sonohana 13, the TA, the phrases are appearing like this: 【りんご】「…ごめんね、千秋ちゃん…」 with the name of the character before. This is hindering the translation. Its break into two lines, example: the first would be for the character name and the second line to the speech of the character in question. I tested both ITH and in AGTH, both have the same problem.

Does anybody know if ITH works with PSP games as well? I want to play Ikkitousen: Xross Impact with the help of an emulator, but if it doesn't work there would be no reason behind downloading the game -_-

Can't help you with this, since you would have to solve this problem with an h-code I think. Or maybe there's something in the settings? I don't know, sry.

Mayby try change text speed in game (sometimes help), or check if you can change font in game config. In some games it help. For me some fonts give me more text (sometimes even HALF MORE!), then mayby this will help too. If this don`t help then it must be h-code.
BUT! If it hook you FULL text and it look like this:
【りんご】「…ごめんね、千秋ちゃん…」
then its easy to just copy again onyly this 「…ごめんね、千秋ちゃん…」 if you can`t find h-code. It`s better than nothing don`t you think?

Such a nice thread and contribution.
The time might actually come now to me where I will have much use of this guide/thread for myself.

Is there any conceivable reason or advantage to using ITH if the game is released in english btw ? Like in perhaps learning Japanese while playing VN's.

Depends on the situation. If you want to learn writing (grammar etc.) Japanese, then it may be a good idea to learn with VN's. However, if you never learned the basics (like me), than you can play as much as you want, you won't understand it.
If you just want to learn how to pronounce then it's also a really good idea, but in this case it would be better to play an English translation.

This is all just my opinion :)

I see, well I summed up the same if I understood you correctly, since ITH gives you a more direct, accurate translation, like a dictionary/machine transliteration instead of a translation. At least thats what I think I've understood so far about it.

^That pretty much sums it up. Although if you find your dictionary giving you translations you know that is incorrect, just fix it yourself. I mean, I do it sometimes when I find something that doesn't sound the way I know it should be in my mind. The only reason I don't complain about it since I'm kind of used to listening people in different languages and I rather hear the transliteration then a perfect western translation in relative terms. Reason? Meanings and intent are lost over translation all the time, especially when you translate anything in relative terms. Rarely it will keep over 80% of the original intent within the said sentence.

YEss ! Is how I feel as well. I always crave accuracy, (it's simply necessary for any form of data to be useful and well able to be utilized, for application or training) inc google search strings as well (which it annoyingly changes for you at times without asking first, just had to rant that while I was at it)

Now that I've just aired my suspected theory of how ITH works and it's imagined beneficial effect, you've sorta verified it. Sometimes I guess it's better to seek a verification of something rather than seeking an explanation I'm reminded of right now.

Which double reminds me the talk I had just earlier today with a certain companies tech support/customer service Xo ofc I asked them for an explanation for something and they explain everything except what I asked about. (DISCLAIMER: not that that's has too much connection with anything in this thread though.)

I feel accuracy is always good in various fields. And verification is a good way to check if you on the same page as others in terms of how the program works. ITH for sure uses a hook system to collect and manage strings that is output from the executed software. Translation Aggregator just uses what you have to translate it into what you have as a source to match and distribute it based on the matches.

Some technical companies like to dodge the question with a non-related answer. More often than not, if you touch a sensitive topic or question, they will almost not answer it. Even if you corner the problem and know where it's coming from. Well that's my experience, but sometimes others are bind by a non-disclosure agreement or agreement to silence about certain matters.

I know.. :s It's really quite annoying and dishonest. But I'll freakin corner them so help me ...... :g for a company should not play around with it's clientele.
Though casual non tech-support ppl do it also.

They should be helping rather than just ignore clients requests unless it complete beyond their field. Then it can't be help in that case but should be able to give you the right direction about the matter then. Bad customer and clientele support means money that was paid to them shall be moved elsewhere.

My experience is people from technicians side of things like to do stop gap fixes and reap what they can get. I learned that the hard way and now I just rely on my knowledge and fix everything myself. May as well gain your own technical experience and knowledge about repairs and fixes. Still I'm no expert in technical computer goods yet. Still tons to learn and rather I just learned enough to do all the basic to intermediate things myself. Advance and master levels, I leave that to the professionals to claim their right to those titles I guess. Please note that this is my experience with them fixing a relatively expensive tower and they could of simply told me to build a new one if they can't fix it.

/Bringing the Topic in line/
Lately there's a lot more eroges that it getting more difficult to get the correct H Code for. Some still make it easy to find the thread but other times, you need the correct direct H Code to get anywhere with that eroge.

I know I double posted but I need someone to help me figure out what kind of error is this and how to resolve it.

5das.jpg

This is when I try to input the H Code on ITH for the following game:
[121026] [Navel] 月に寄りそう乙女の作法 -Limited Edition-

With this H Code:
/HB18*0@4D3E60:月に寄りそう乙女の作法.exe

Ideas on why it refusing the H code with that kind of error? Doesn't explain much on the first sight and already had the ITH updated to its current version out there.

This error is coming out of the game from what I can tell though so no idea why it's doing that.

Edit: Nevermind, figured out to just put only the code in without the execute pathing of the file. No idea I could do without it.

Hmmm sory cant help ja i have installed a hentai game to but the trsanlations makes no sense whata im doing wrong?

Try to find out the h-code for your game. If you don't know how you can do that just write the name of the game and I'll search one (but I can't promise you that I'll fine one though).
If you should find one alone, then go to the main post of the thread (page 1) and look how to use it :)

Edit: The dropdown menu where it says "GetGlyphOutlineW" ... try to change that to something else. Maybe it works then.

hii
but actually when i tried to play garnet cradle with ith there was a hook trasported in it but the characters repeated even though auto surpess reapetion is clicked idk what should i do??

hello all,

Maybe someone know how to fix this problem. I'm playing Kuro to Kin no Akanai Kagi now, created userhook. Text is fine when is just story telling, but, when character saying something, text just messing up. Something like that :

【郁人】「【郁人】【郁人】姉【郁人】【郁人】貴【郁人】【郁人】、【郁人】【郁人】入【郁人】【郁人】る【郁人】【郁人】ぞ【郁人】【郁人】」【郁人】【郁人】【郁人】

Please, help me
