[SOLVED] Burning Discs

I feel as if I'm abusing this forum... my sincere apologies. D:

I'm looking to make a copy of a disc. As in, I intend to create another disc that will function in the exact same way as the first (I guess you call this disc cloning?). I do believe I have a burner, as it says 'DVD-RW Drive ( E: )' under Devices with Removable Storage in My Computer. However, I only have one CD drive so I've heard that the freeware ImgBurn is rather reliable so I'm going with that for now.

From what I understand, I'm supposed to insert the disc I wish to copy and get ImgBurn to copy the files to my HD. Then I insert the blank and initiate the burning. But I'm still jittery about a few things...

1. The disc is not a music CD nor a movie DVD; it's a game. Does this change the process in any way? And after copying, will the cloned disc still behave like the first one would (installing the game etc.)?

2. Is the first disc affected from the copying? I won't end up accidentally changing anything in it, will I?

3. Considering it's a game and it's rather large, what kind of blanks am I supposed to use? What happens if the disc doesn't have enough memory to contain the whole image? Will it ask me to insert another blank and continue copying or will I be stuck with an incomplete disc?

As if it weren't confusing enough, the game has TWO disks. Meaning that there are two disks I need to burn.

I'm kind of overwhelmed by it all... Or am I just over-thinking this? Please do enlighten me!

EDIT: It's the PC version of Mass Effect 1.

What kind of game disc is it???? And what kind of blank disc do you have???? And how much gb is the Game disc when you rip it????

Mass Effect 1. I don't have any blanks with me at the moment which is why I want to know which ones to use so I can go buy them - I sure don't want to waste money on discs that will end up being unusable for me after all. xD As for the size of image - I'm not sure yet, the discs are not with me at the moment.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that this is the PC version. The only console I own is a PSP. :goodtea:

1. It doesnt mather what kind of disc it is, it may not have auto load but u will still be able to open setup and instal the game normally without any problems. (only u need to be careful that the game is not original, then u wont be able to copy it cause of protection, if is pirated game u wont have any problems.

Burning doesnt do anything to the cd you are burning from

If there isnt enough space on the disc the program u are using will tell u that before burning

p.s I suggest using Nero Burning Rom where u have simple option Copy DvD/Cd and in 2 clicks u are done (just put your game disc first then when it asks u put in the blank cd and u good to go)

Then what Monj said it doesn't matter.... Just make sure when you rip the cd you got all the data....

WEll if u have 2 discs, first just burn first like u would do if there was only one cd and then just burn other one on another disc.

U understand ? if u dont, get a teamviewer I can show u

Gosh, you guys are Godsend. :happytears:

Thanks! That really clears up a lot! I think I get it now. Just treat the two discs like they're seperate discs, right? :]

Eheheh... No, it's not an original. Belongs to a friend actually, which is why I'm so concerned that something will happen to it.

So will I have to use CD-R or DVD-R?

It DVD-R.... Well you can you use any dvd disc to burn it though..... If nero doesn't work try alcohol 120%.....

As it's ME 1 Im pretty sure those 2 discs your friend gave u are CD-R, but u should check to be sure. U can say if they are not original it will be written on the CD-R or DVD-R... But be aware, if u have older computer u might not have DVD burner.

Oh, does that mean I have to use a blank that is the same type as the disc I'm copying from?

Make sure it not over 4.6gb.... Then you will have to use dual-layer disc then..... It 8.6gb of those Dual-layer disc....

Yes... It depend on how you rip it.... ISO is for dvd....

Well u should, cause if u want to put em on one DVD (note that this is only possible if those 2 are CD-R) would be much more complicated.

Well u can get Nero Burning Rom from TPB free too lol. And dont make it complicate for her saying ISO :P.

I dont think ME 1 is over 4,7 gb as it was released 2007.

edit: if this was right what I saw on Tpb its over 4,7 xD

So now, just Burn DVD-R no.1 on one blank DVD and DVD no.2 on another blank DVD

Lol.... She new this huh..... Yea... Game ripping is easy.... Just burning it to another is quite complicated...

Oh man... I think I'll rip it first before deciding on which blanks to buy. I want to try as much as I can to keep it to two discs, since the installation would ask for disc 2 once it's done with disc 1 and I'm not sure what will happen if there was only one disc.

On the other hand, what if I downloaded a .iso file and burned that? Though it will only be on one disc... but since it seems to work for others, I guess it doesn't affect the installation... but I'm not sure if it has a keygen...

Sorry, I'm probably not making much sense/explaining myself very well.

EDIT: Yes, Slayn. I have never done this before. Please forgive my n00bness. :dontleave:

EDIT2: OK, so if going with the copying from disc option, I'll buy DVD-R. I guess this applies to ME2 as well?

Feel free to kick me for asking such n00b questions.

If you DL it then the keygen for the game you already have it..... It the original disc....

Cmon just download teamviewer now and Ill do it for u, its much easier........

So... I rip the original disc for the keygen, right?

EDIT: I'm sorry Monj, I don't have the discs with me right now... :forsaken:

Do what Monj say Kasumi....

Lol... Learn the tutorial from Monj.... It will help later on....

Wait why are u ripping game cD?

Well hit me up on VM or something when u have it and Ill do it for you...

But how did u plan on burning it now when u dont have cds? lol

Another n00b question... what's VM? xD And thanks so much, Monj! I would really appreciate it if it's not too troublesome. :D

Well, I was hoping she could pass ithe discs to me on Monday or something when I see her. So I'm just learning the process now so I know my shit (or some of it at least) when I have them and not be a clueless duck wandering the bowels of the internet looking for solutions. xD

EDIT: It's called preparing, PREPARING! :baby: Besides, your sig seems pretty ironic considering your post content. :evillaugh:
