ぷちぷちアイドル候補生, aka Petit X Petit problems on Windows 8

Okay, I am having a problem with this game on Windows 8. The game appears to start, but then immediately closes within a milli-second of it starting. I already have my entire system in Japanese Mode, even for "Formats" and "Location" under the Region section in Control Panel.
I've tried using all compatibility options down to Windows 95 as well.

It's strange because I can play other Japanese H-games without any issue on my system. Is there a 'breaker' for the game that prevents it from playing on Windows 8 or an update that I can try to install?

I totally understand that Windows 8 is a brand-new operating system but still..... usually changing the compatibility settings to an earlier version of Windows gets things working.

Did you tried reinstalling the game already? Does the game work on another PC/on Win7?

Just depends on the problem If it's a problem with drivers, DirectX etc. the compatibility mode doesn't help most of the time.

It can't be a problem with drivers, I'm using the same ones on Windows 8 that I used on Windows 7 when this game worked. ALL of the drivers are the same as on Windows 7 when the game worked.

Nothing has changed in my system except installing Windows 8 and the drivers are exactly the same as Windows 7.

I'm honestly beginning to wonder if Windows 8 changed something or Windows Defender is shutting this game down thinking it's malware.

As to the re-installation issue, I've installed it 4 times now and uninstalled it 3 times. It's not an installation issue from what I can see.

If you think Windows Defender is the reason, disable it before installing/opening the game. Otherwise it's most likely a problem with DirectX. If that's the case, the only possible solution afaik is to install VirtualBox and emulate XP. I used Win8 until two months before too, but I got a DirectDraw error (also a problem with DirectX) when starting Duel Savior. Somehow they removed a few functions for the DirectX version on Win8.

Wait until Microsoft or they release some update to fix this problem. It also could be the fact that the app is somehow detecting the Windows version and halting once it sees something greater than NT 6.2 (which they aren't supposed to!).

Sometimes Microsoft releases application compatibility updates to address problems like this, but I won't count on it.

Hmm maybe your windows 8 is forcebully or whatever you spell that closing your game. Try this Start>Right click Computer>Properties> Oh top left click Advanced system settings>Under Performance click settings>Click data execution Prevention and add the launcher in> Then click ok and close it.. And hopefully it'll work.
