Fellow citizens of Anime-Sharing Forum,

I'm sure the more observant of you lot (or ones that clean their cache regularly would have noticed very early) will probably have noticed some people are walking around with broken signature and such that used Imgur as their image hosting site. As it seems like not everyone have noticed this so I'm here to inform you guys regarding Imgur and their "broken" links.

Around 2 weeks or so ago pretty much all imgur links "died", you'll still see some of them if you still have cached image, however once your browser cleared cache you'll have noticed a lot of broken signatures/images. This is caused by Imgur having blocked image link towards ASF, thus Imgur links will appeared to be dead on this site, so for future reference please use other image host such as Imagebam if you want others to see the images you upload! Thanks for your understanding and I am sorry for the inconvenience caused, but blame Imgur! :P

Regards,

King

Lol, don't worry King - This is not the fault of you or of the forum itself, the fault lies not to mistake at Imgur; They didn't even at their own website about some possible changes informed the users - No article there about it.

And I've been since middle of Jan. this noticed, where then I'm not surprised about it. - Good that I at Photobucket am...:bored:

No, I will blame you KingArturia; go fix it D:

But to be fair like Nanashi said, its not a result that is out of the blue, I kind of expect this coming one day or another ;)

Yup me too actually. It's just matter of time until a different hoster gets fed up too x3

We'll see, but I'm sure there are plenty of options out there, remember don't use one that will bloat your images, or you guys gonna get some angry PM from me regarding your signature sizes.

Hey King, dunno if you still on my [Suggestion] thread at Site Support remembering, but I'll it tell...

I did at that time suggested, that ASF may an own image host had... - Well, more likely a extended option/application/service - where here (of course in an limited way) his/her own siggys, sets, renders uploading would...

Haha, won't happen with me :3

That's because when it happens, I'll slap you with Seiba's Excalibur! :3

I'm not sure how much it would cost to run something like that, even though we have a lot of lurker, however active community is still a fair number, especially when some of us change signature every 2 week or so, hosting something like that specifically might not be cost effective when we could easily just use an external one, so I don't think Checku-sama would ever consider doing that to be honest.

Well, from the nearly 90K ASF members are less than 1% really active (but to be honest, even below of 0,5% are active)...

But everyone had just so 5 MB space for it...

But I did more or less the same answer get from Ignis at that time, like from you now...xD

Thing is we can't just look at current figure and just have a be all end all. If we do host a server to carry out such duty, Using your figure of say 1% active community contributor of 90K ASF member, and say all have a 500kb or say roughly 0.5Mb worth of signature each, that's around 900 member which result in 500Mb of space that's just reserved for 1 signature (assuming we clear data maybe once every half a year) per user. Assuming on average half the population or so change signature every 2 weeks or so, that would result in an addition of around 500Mb a month, meaning if we clear every half a year or so, that would result in an extra 3Gb be used to store data, meaning an extra 3.5Gb is purely used just for signature storage assuming our population don't grow further and people don't change signature often.

I mean extra 3.5Gb probably doesn't mean much when we're talking about forum of our size, however the real question still lie in the fact that whether this whole hassle is worth it or not, and if you ask me from my point of view, I say no. Purely and simply because of the fact there are so much image host out there that are dedicated to this kind of service that is free, so why put extra hassle and stress in just setting up something for signature there are cheaper solutions out there? :P

But if I an siggy (or set) changing/uploading would here, then I'd the old ones delete... - So had everyone still about 500 KB stored on ASF... (But this would be just my viewpoint)

And why? Because it can be, that maybe also Photobucket and the other still for ASF valid image hosters sometime ASF blocking would, where then this the only resolution remain would...

ImageBam (the one suggested by Corocoro-sama) should be a lightweight functional image hoster that haven't block ASF, the problem is from the viewpoint of user I can see your justification, however as the people running ASF I can't see the right justification when there are still plenty of image host out there that still supply this service for free.

And As for deleting, that is true but most of the time site store images at least for awhile in case the user want to use it again, its quite rare that they're deleted as soon as the user upload another one. I'm by no means an expert in this field, however if you ask me it would still create something that Checku-sama will have to keep an eye on and I'm pretty sure unless absolutely necessary I don't think he'll ever even consider about running a dedicated image hosting service for ASF.

Hmm... Let's see how it will be in this area...^_^

Why does animesharing censor imgur links? You guys put asterisks instead of placing the real imgur url.

Frankincense;

So Imgur banned Anime-Sharing...but do we know why the ban happened? Were AS uploaders hosting all their porn related pictures there?

Quoting corocoro
IMGUR bans sites using certain criteria (featuring piracy, porn, etc.) and we're among them. After the ban, using IMGUR links on AS was no longer possible and detrimental to the user experience—after all, only the poster could see them. Despite that some people continued using IMGUR, so the host was banned from our side as well.
The solution is to use another image host, one without such restrictions. Reuploading an image is easy and most hosts even allow you to do so based on an URL. Vote with your feet: if IMGUR's idealogies are not compatible with your own, don't support them.
