I live in Quebec for over 8 years and my Japanese is much better than French lolz... All I did was playing eroge instead of being social
I used to get French and German classes, both of which I had 3 years.. Still my Japanese > German/French just from Anime/VN and a little bit of self study.

To be honest,I don't understand details of difference in races.I can feel difference just roughly.I guess it is because of lack of meeting many people who are different races.
Of cource,I use the word "difference" to mean just difference.It's not bad word.
You'll pick up more when you see other people speaking in different situations.
