Thumbs up Realistic eye gaze for VR

    Hi!

I was disappointed in how the girl's gaze followed the avatar, so I tried to make it better.
It replaces the default gaze implementation with mine that has one mode: follow the camera and works with Eusth VR mode.

As a base for the implementation I used a comment I found on Reddit which gave me formulas on how fast an eye will move for a certain distance and also where the eye looks in a social context. Instead of staring at you the girls will now switch between three points of the "social triangle": the eyes and the mouth.

Please try it out and let me know what you think.

Where am I supposed to put the DLL? I tried both Plugins\ and Plugins\VR\ and didn't notice any difference in their behavior.

In Plugins. You can notice that it's on by trying to turn gaze off (press 1). If you can turn gaze off (meaning she now looks straight ahead instead towards camera), then it's not working. But the effect is pretty subtle. If you are really close to her face you can see her eyes switch from looking at your eyes to your mouth.

Re: Realistic eye gaze for VR

What a great mod! But for the Vive / Eusth's patch it seems the offset is not quite right. Without the mod, and with a pupil position at default 50, she's looking directly into my eyes (actually my left eye), but with this turned on she's looking at each of my eyebrows, and the bottom part of the gaze is directly in my eyes / bridge of nose (instead of my mouth).

Setting Pupil Pos to around 5 or 10 seems to fix the upper gaze to be looking roughly into my eyes, but then the bottom triangle of the gaze falls on my nose, and not really down at my mouth. So it seems the gaze field itself might not be large enough. But making the gaze area larger, you have to be careful to let the eyes snap into position and not swim too slowly, or we're stuck in uncanny valley.

This could all be specific to the Vive or to my IPS. I know I can fix this by lowering the pupils, but I'll have to do that for all my characters. All that said, this is a really great idea, well done.

Hi, does your plugin only work with Eusth VR ?
If it does, can you make it work with vanilla launcher, i'm quit interested to see what it does.

Re: Realistic eye gaze for VR

    Hi Minih,

As long as Eusth VR is installed it will work with the standard launcher as well. So to try it out install his mod just don't run the VR launcher and it should work.

PS I will hereafter update my plugin on Hongfire's mod thread.

Re: Realistic eye gaze for VR

Thank for the reply, very interesting plugin,it makes the girl more lively.
But a see what Nerf Blanston means, the default height pupil position isn't scale with the vanilla one, so without tweaking the character looks a bit too high.
Also I don't know if it's because i don't use the VR launcher but sometime pupil got a huge momentum when switching to mouth-eyes-nose and eyes often goes on the left.

That said, I see a lot of potential to this mod, like auto ahegao and stuff involving pupil position.
