Translation help for Jeffrey

I'm just going to keep this thread going with my translation questions instead of making new threads....

I got a new untranslated version of yuri himi I will work on it for practice. I have a lot of fun trying to translate and I also love comics about girls love, it's just a win win situation all the way around. If
I can actually get it translated, I'll edit it and post it.

Here's the contents of a word bubble that I want to make sure I understand correctly. For context info, one girl was in her bedroom sitting on her bed reading. She feels hungry so she leaves her room and going into another room where a girl is sitting on the floor. She looks at the girl on the floor and says . . .

The 1st line is here name right? nadeshiko. The kanji means pink and lovable girl, but I assume it's her name.
The next line is NE-chan. Is the NE there just to sound cute, or does it mean something else?
the 2nd girl responds with a huh?

The 1st girl holds up what looks like a manga and says

これ が なにか わかる かな...?
kore ga nanika wakaru kana
I wonder if you understand this. <-is it right? but then again, nanika means somthing. but saying I wonder if you understand this somthing doesn't sound right to me.

The girl on the floor is looking at her holding the manga and says

あっ
別冊9月号

I used a dictionary for this and I get the gist but how still a little confused. Extra Issue, lilly setember,
but the 9月 means september so what is the last kanji for? I know it means number among other things.

I have to go out back and paint, but I will post questions from the 3rd page later.

Indeed 撫子 is a name and is read as either
なつこ or なでしこ (both female names)

ね-ちゃん as you probably guessed, is just a very casual form of お姉さん

これ が なにか わかる かな..
this is actually a combination of two questions:
これは何ですか what is this?
and
わかるかな i wonder if (you) know.. (an indirect way of asking, do you know..?)
so it means something like
i wonder if (you) know what this is.

別冊9月号 read as べっさつ９月ごう
別冊 : extra issue
9月号: September issue

so 別冊9月号 means something along the lines of
extra September issue

Hi guys...

Would aritai mean that you want something to exist? I've never seen ari with the tai suffix in my short Japanese career.

This is the sentence I pulled it out from. It's an old visual novel from 2002/ I captured a couple of screens of text using a hook program and thorough I would try my luck.

By the way, I learned my 300th kanji character today. I'm getting to a point to where there all starting to look the same.

any verb conjugated with ～たい expresses desire for something
例：食べたい、聞きたい、見たい、。。。

I don't know about the sentence where you found ありたい、but I'd venture a guess that it was preceded by で
that is, ～でありたい
でありたい is the conjugated form of である、which is the formal version of です。
we don't conjugate です. instead, we conjugate it's formal version, である

例：
I am pretty: きれいです。
I want to be pretty: きれいでありたい。

I'm happy: 幸せです。
I want to be happy: 幸せでありたい。

edit: btw congrats on achieving 300 kanji..! ＼（＾▽＾）／　ぉめでとぉ～
i should probably work on my kanji too ... ＞＿＜;

one would think that it would be ok to use ～がありたい when you desire to have something (material)
例：お金がありたい
since ある means to have, but that's wrong, and the correct form is
お金があってほしい


edit 3:
you could think of ～でありたい as just another way of saying ～になりたい

きれいでありたい　＜－＞　きれいになりたい
I want to be pretty <--> I want to become pretty

幸せでありたい　＜－＞　幸せになりたい
I want to be happy <--> I want to become happy
