i started learning Japanese by playing otome game nise no chigari and i've matsert the hiragina im learning katana now i also know some kanji from the game and words and all from watching anime alot

i'm thinking about playing a psp novel any recommendations??? i have a kanji dictionary to i thought about uta no prince sama or amnesia at first but then i read its best to start with a school romance type so i think about brothers conflict or somthing like this ?? whats ur opinion????

I'd recommend tokimeki memorial girl's side 3 (really any of the tokimemo games but that's the only one with a psp port). Utapuri games are also relatively light, as well as most Quinrose games. I'd stay away from the Hiiro no Kakera series and games with a heavier plot like L.G.S until you're more comfortable.

and what do u think about amnesia and brothers conflict ??? are they lighter than utapri???
i playes memorial girls in english so im not tha interisted in playing it again

I would start with psp games that have summaries online to make it easier for you to follow along. This website has really detailed summaries for Amnesia, Gekka Ryouran Romance, etc.

For games on your own that are pretty easy, I'm basing my recommendations on about 1.5 years of formally learning Japanese and perhaps about ~400 kanji by heart:

-Hatsukare Renai Debut Sengen
-Kannou Mukashibanashi
-The Tokyo Yamanote Boys series
-Diabolik Lovers
-Renai Banchou
-Arcana Famiglia
-Wand of Fortune series (Never played it though)

Personally, I find Quinrose games very difficult but Brother's Conflict seems pretty easy.

i can now read hiragana fluntly and katakna some how and learnt very little kanji from the game nise no chigari that u put for us :D

the proplem that i know very little words and kanji though i have dictionrys but i dont find learning from the internet any useful and im actually afraid to forget i have come up to now

though i was thinking after finishing this game that i try some game without translator though those games are the ones i found recommended the most

If you need to learn kanji and vocab, I highly recommend using Wanikani. The first two levels are free but you have to pay after, but it's helped me so much in understanding kanji.

To have Japanese stuff with you everywhere, perhaps? :D
Listening to Drama CDs or anything in Japanese (even if there's a lot you don't understand), watching an anime episode everyday, dramas, podcasts.. Audio books ... You can even read manga in Japanese.. There are many sites where you can download raw manga.. But I guess you might want to do that online if you don't want to waste much time, right? Here's one of the sites where you can read them online. Here's another site.

I hope that was helpful..

what im mostly scared of is when my tests come i wont be able to read any vn nor manga so im scared to forget how to read them and the kanji i've learnt so far

Well, I'm pretty sure exams won't last that long.:3 If you can't even read one manga chapter every now and then during your exams period, you'll still be able to remember them after that if you revise once..

And if you have time these days, you can make flashcards with the Kanji/characters you've learned up till now, and their readings. And you can use them whenever you have some time, or on the go..:)

All the games by Karin Entertainment have a voiced protagonist which will make your life much easier and u could get accustomed to new kanji. They also have a western setting so you will see a lot of katakana. Eikoku tantei mysteria, Danzai no Maria, and Zettai Meikyuu Grimm is from Karin for example. I also heard the Amnesia series isn't too difficult because the protagonist doesn't speak that much. She just gasps or goes like "un". The same goes for Arcana Famiglia. And Moujuutsukai to Ouji-sama is not that difficult either and it has great art and story XD I would also propose playing japanese pc games and using Atlas and AGTH. You can find a tutorial on the internet. It helped me a lot. :)

(lol bumping this thread because I also want some recommendations!) Like some users in this thread mentioned, Diabolik Lovers and Amnesia are two games that are simple enough for an advanced beginner to get the gist of. And like ChrisMevan mentioned, games with voiced protagonists are the best. I tried Atelier Elkrone (PSP) today, and while I was able to understand the beginning portion, it took me forever because I was reading and parsing each sentence individually... It can get pretty tiring. I think it would have taken me even longer if the protagonist Meriela wasn't voiced, lol. /sigh

You should try games, where the heroine is voiced, like Zettai Meikyu Grimm (and most games of Karin, they aren't that hard either). The heroines in Norn9 are also voiced but this game has some difficult moments in the story... other than that... any school-themed game, they usually are pretty easy. And also look for games which a purely dialog-based (like Amnesia and Arcana Famiglia) they are especially good for beginners.

edit: checked my complete list and found some good other games for beginners. Won't write the ones already mentioned here.

NeoRomance Games like Kiniro no Korda (very easy games), Geten no Hana (easy and short), Angelique (old stuff), Harukanaru Toki no Naka de (the hardest of them all but dialog only as well and awesome story in part 3 and 4)

Musketeer
Beastmaster and Prince
Garnet Cradle
Beyond the Future
Dot Kareshi series (probably the easiest games I've ever seen)
Solomons Ring series (not very good games but easy to understand and short)

and most games you guys already found XD

I had made a Kanji frequency list for the two games Clock Zero and Wand of Fortune.
Although it's based on raw script data so some of the Kanji may only appear in the system or as pointers/helpers, but this would probably only be 1-5%.

Looking up the Kanji and their uses, then making a flashcard deck based off of them could help.
( I would recommend using Anki which is available on pretty much any Operating System :) )

This is a great method to learn, but it isn't possible to find script for all otoges in existence XD

But Clock Zero wasn't that easy. They used a lot of philosophical and pseudo-science stuff.

Can I recommend the new Seishun Hajimemashita? It's pretty easy to understand and it's pretty funny, imho :D

The game is fully voiced (with the exception of the hero/heroine's thoughts) so you might only need to look up the occasional kanji.

@Langesha: Haha, that's true, but recognition should get easier after a while when creating lists of decks.
I did finish one for Amnesia, and trying to access Beastmaster & Prince, based on your lists.

Amnesia does seem a lot easier, out of WoF, Clock Zero and itself, there are only 285 Kanji that appear over 100 times.
While the other two have over 500!

So by at least remembering these 285 I think it should make it a bit easier to play; not having to look up as frequently.
But all three still seem to have over 3800 Kanji appear... :donefor:

I would also recommend games where the heroine is also voiced (I played one where the heroine was a thief or something but I can't remember the title m(_ _)m Sorry, not much help). School romances are usually easy to understand too.

To add a specific title, I would say Hime Hibi Princess Days (Takuyo). I had the impression it was pretty easy, but I played it right after struggling with lots of kanji in Hakuoki, so maybe it's that influence? Oh, and the renai Bancho and Tokyo Yamanote Boys series aren't that hard either (although I haven't played them much, so maybe I jst got the easier parts?? xDD Idk)

Hope this helps a little~

(I'm listing here only PSP games, because you can easily play PC games with the help of translation programs like ITH&TA.)

Based on my recent experiences I would recommend:
- Brothers Conflict: It's definitely stands on the first place. The heroine is unvoiced, but it doesn't use difficult kanji, so the text is easy to read. Probably the easiest, most beginner-friendly game I have ever played. ^^
- Amnesia: The heroine hardly ever speaks, so here you basically don't have to read kanji, most of the time pretty easy to understand.
- Arcana Famiglia: Heroine don't have any lines. Same as above.
- Diabolik Lovers: Heroine unvoiced, there are definitely more kanji and the text is a little more difficult then Brothers Conflict, but not that challenging in my opinion.
- Uta no Prince-sama: I didn't play much with this, but as far as I can tell it's probably the same as DiaLovers.

However I definitely wouldn't recommend any QuinRose games, as I found their language pretty difficult, and I was the same with Garnet Cradle (but it has its PC version, so...)
