Otoge artists

Otomate has been recruiting different artists/mangaka for their new projects these days. This is just wishful rambling but who would u like to see draw art for otoge ^w^

My pick would be Amano Chigiri and Akutsu Yoshiya. They both did art for r18 otoge tho (ChouDoku, Tsubasa no Oka no Hime) but I would seriously like to see more games drawn by them tbh.

Wada Beko is illustrating Zettai Kaikyuu Gakuen so that's one of my wish fulfilled.

I'd want to see Shouoto Aya for an otome game. She's well known for making beautiful ikemen on her reverse harem manga, but unfortunately lacks talent to make a decent story.

it's カズキヨネ.

and for atelier series, as much as i know the series are aimed for a male audience. but the game with "dear for otomate" is the only otoge one. similiar like da capo series

Kazuki Yone left Idea Factory in 2011. Reasons unknown.

She didn’t do the illustrations for Hanaoni , Hakuouki Yuugiroku 2. Since 2011 (after Hakuouki Reimeiroku Portable), the extra CG’s and cover art for Hakuouki games and the recent Hakuouki games were done by other artists. I just read that somewhere.

Otomate never revealed the name of the artist(s). I think they did that to trick the people, so that they would think that Kazuki Yone is still doing the art.

Not One person. As you suggested, they are two persons.

Usuba Kageroo ( 薄葉カゲロー ) is the common (shared) pen-name of the two Illustrators.
One is アシナ ( Ashina )
The other is 黒芽　 ( maybe: Kurome )

("Character Designer" has wide meanings or roles. In anime works, character designer draws the Standard and Basic (Prototype) character images. But they do not actually draw each animation pictures. Many animators draw many animation pictures based on the settings of the images created by the character designer. This is not strange thing. In general games, the same situations may exist. Character designer does not always draws all the pictures used in the game, but assistant illustrators and non-famous artists draw actual pictures sometimes.)

Sorry, but you misunderstood what I wrote about Kazuki Yone. I meant that she didn’t do the illustrations for the new Hakuouki games (SSL and the android/ iOS games) not the old games that were ported to PSV, PS3, DS and 3DS. I didn’t mean that she didn’t do the illustrations for these games, I wrote that the extra (new) CG’s and the cover art for these games were done by other artists.

I researched a bit for one hour or so, in Japanese Internet, people told and tell what.

This is (pretty based on the facts, but contains the supposed and the uncertain parts, and maybe wrong parts. The real situations, what was really hapened are difficult to know, since we and people are not Kazuki Yone herself and the staff of Idea Factory etc. They may know the facts in the background).

1) The fact: Kazuki Yone was an employee of the Idea Factory. And a certain person wrote (I could not find where I read this though) that picture design of the early works (products, that is, games) of Idea Factory were all created by Kazuki. She had drawn.
2) The fact: Kazuki retired the company (Idea Factory, possibly). When? I don't know now. (I could not find the date of retirement). But it might be 2012 or earlier (2010 or 2011. because she wrote in her blog that she is a freelance illustrator, on January 1, 2011. If she was an employee of the IF at this point, she did not write this thing. Also, the blog was started on January 1, 2011. She possibly retired in 2010, and opened the blog and wrote messagte, I am waiting for offer of jobs.)
3) The supposed or the fact: After retirement, Kazuki still contracted with the Idea Factory, the jobs (as designer and illustrator) of Hakuouki series. But she was not an employee of the Idea Factory, so there might be some troubles between her and IF (what troubles, uncertain).
4) The IF stopped to ask or offer her to continue the game designer and illustrator jobs.
5) Thus (supposedly), people said that the illustrations of "Hakuouki Yuugiroku 2" were drawn and created by ex-assistant illustrators of her in the IF, but her name was used as Character Designer. (At this point, Kazuki compromised with the IF. Or, the IF should have observed the contract).
6) But, at the next game and other stuff relating Hakuouki, Kazuki was ignored from the IF. Totally the depth (borderline) was made between Kazuki and the IF.

And there are some confusions.

The relation of Otomate, Idea Factory, and Design Factory. 1) Idea Factory is a company under Otomate, or Otomate established Idea Factory. 2) Design factory is a subsidiary of Idea Factory. 3) So, Otomate > Idea Factory > Design Factory. 4) Idea Factory is game producing company, but it is rather Planning company. 5) Design factory is field company. Employees (artists, scenario writers etc.) of DF substantially draw pictures and write scripts of the game which was planned by Idea Factory. 6) Thus when games are created and completed, the Otomate sells these games with other stuff.

Kazuki Yone is only a piece of producing staff in these organizations. Fans love and appreciate her pictures. But games are product of collaboration works. Without Kazuki, Idea factory can produce games.
Kazuki did not receiveany offer of jobs of games and illustrating jobs from Otomate and Idea Factory. Other artists draw Hakuouki pictures etc.

A bit complicated situations.
The customs or methods of game producing companies and those of anime producinsg companies are different. Game related companies, that is, Otomate and IF do not offer any jobs of game to Kazuki. But Anime related companies still offere jobs of illustrations or character designing to Kazuki. Game industry and Anime industry are intimately related. This brings confusions.

Kazuki Yone in a sense stands on rather weak position. She is not copyright-holder of the many famous character images in the games (possibly) which she designed when she was an employee of the IF (or, Otomate. I cannot find which company she was employed by, at this point). But at least, it is clear that recent game works, illustrations etc. which once Kazuki had created are not the works by her.

I really misunderstood in this point. (I found "Hakuouki Yuugiroku 2"). And thought the other things. That is, who is (are) the Artist(s) of the game pictures is very difficult and complicated problem. Sometimes representative, famous artist name was shown, sometimes, totally unknown multi artists names were shown, sometimes no info, etc. Many or most works are collaboration works after all. etc.

Otomate didn't trick anyone since it is true Yone designed the HKK characters. What they're doing instead is not being transparent on who is doing the actual art for the current games. If you look at the staff credits for Hanaoni, you can see two different staff named for 'chara designer' and 'illustrator'. Newer HKK games just list the character designer but zero illustrator credit.

Also this behaviour isn't practiced by Otomate alone. Dousei Kareshi and Double Score still lists their original artists as 'character designer' eventho they left the staff payroll. So I guess this is how the industry handles these kind of situations?
