日本全国の大学が参加するロボットコンテスト 「NHK大学ロボコン」として１９９１年から始まりました。
２０１５年より参加枠が広がり、高等専門学校や大学校も 出場できるようになり、「ＮＨＫ学生ロボコン」と名称を改めました。
書類選考、第１次ビデオ審査、第２次ビデオ審査を経て、 選ばれたおよそ２０チームがアイデアとチームワークを駆使して競います。
優勝したチームは、日本代表として 世界大会「ＡＢＵアジア・太平洋ロボットコンテスト（ABUロボコン）」へ出場します。
