Hello I am hardcore gamer

Just a reminiscing of some of the greatest games the game industry ever made. I'm not mentioning Final fantasy because thats just all over the place you can mention it if you like, I'm sure there are billions more threads for those games but yeah they are cool too.
I am 34 age is getting to me and making me wonder about games help me remember some old school classics as far back as the power of the NES+?

Secret of Mana 1 - SNES- 100+ hours spent. This is a great game I bought this game imported, I didn't have converter so I went all the way back to the store same day to pick one up, these days Id be too lazy lol Its the only 3 player rpg I know of on the sNEs one of the coolest rpg's of all time.

Xenogears - PSX - 90+ hours spent. story telling was so deep its as if the guys wrote a holy bible on the whole game. I like it because its cool sprites, and rpg elements with great everything about it. Too bad though disk 2 beginning made me use a turbo pad lol

Chrono Trigger - SNES - 100+ hours spent. The coolest concept of a storyline mix with interesting characters great graphics for the time and more replay value than I anticipated.

Valkyrie Profile - PSX 130+ hours spent Tons of detailed cool characters, amazing special moves, great music one of my favourite types of rpg's next to star ocean games this game is worthy of an infinite amount of sequels.

Zelda 1 NES and 3 - SNES Zelda OCarina but it stops there no more decent zelda games after OCarina came out- When you play these when your young you get hooked on them guaranteed and they suck you into their world very addictive game said to cause delusions.

Super mario 1-2-3-4- SNES not as addictive as Zelda imo but for 2 player is fun for a long time. Especially super mario 3 I saw a movie called "The wizard" first time i ever saw Super mario 3 was in the movie after that I had to have the game. Nintendo that was an easy sales ploy. ¬_¬v lol

Saints row 2 -Xbox360- 300+ hours spent my favourite gangster style action game of all time has almost everything you could ever want in a 3rd person game, so much to do I ranked over 300 hours on that baby.

Brute Force - Xbox back in the day this was a Really cool action shootem up. and up to 4 players too good multiplayer gaming there, I find this game better than games like Halo2+ or Gears of war games, trust me the reason is each character in brute force has their own special ability, and they can switch characters on the fly command them and just mix the best strategy with good co-op features, and fun action till the end.

Sudeki- Xbox 80+ hours spent -Very nostalgic game that is greatly underestimated has old school rpg elements. Hardly any music in it but when it does come on its really really cool, and it makes you nostalgic even while you play.

Bullet witch - Xbox360- not many people liked this but I did why? well lets see its A/ got hot girl B/ has still the most epic in game destruction of all time to date nothing made has come close to a spell in this game called Meteor shower. which literally comes out the sky and destroys huge buildings causing city wide damage. Seriously no other game has beat it yet in terms of wide spread spell damage, and well yes there's the hot girl in costumes lol

Kameo- Xbox360- 100+ hours colourful game my niece loves this. and I love its Zelda like elements.

Star ocean 2 - PSX -400+ hours Probably my favourite type of RPG, great characters, deep storyline, cool special fx for back in the day that is, and overall a game worthy of top 10 games of all time. It has practically everything you want in an RPG mixed with an amazing sound track much like Valkyrie profile and cool storyline that surprises you when you least expect it.

The Last of us - 30+hours super cool gameplay amazing detail, nothing like I've seen since the old days when I used to love playing half life 1 on pc. Kept me addicted till i finished it, then I was hungry for more. Its so short its too sad.

Beyond 2 souls < this one has a great storyline but poor replay value and action gameplay but amazing realistic and curiously interesting story. Too short overall which is so sad it should have been twice its length minimum, its shorter than the last of us. Beyond 2 souls is a Game with some of the best Acting I've seen in a game.

I'm trying to figure out why on Earth I like very few games these days, and why games are declining over the years? With only few exceptions. So tell me what game or games why you like it and what's so good about it?

sorry for spelling or grammar I' grew up dyslexic using firefox underlines to help me spell sorry if i make any of you cry in nostalgic memories sorry >.< I can't list all my games I enjoyed over the years just some of them, feel free to share your own thoughts about the games or others I've not mentioned. Just curious to see other peoples point of view.

edit: forgot to mention you can just impart your knowledge onto us if you like about anything game related question you have too, maybe one of us can answer it.

nice ones you got there Shizusan^^..yes...i like classic games too, especially rpgs...Xenogears and

xenosaga series, grandia series...

'bout the reason liking few games, i guess games nowadays mostly only focus to graphic and lack
bout the storyline...well that's what i thought anyway:>

The console game I like best...is Parasite Eve 2. Not sure why I can keep playing the same thing, same setting, examining the same thing, blasting the same creatures, over and over, under easiest mode, just that every run I am using different equipments. From PS1, PSP, to PS3 classic, I've played it like 20-30 times, (taking my time in every single run, Aya's got a lot to comment on stuff) and I could go for more.

The highly obscure PC game that is Street Wars: Constructor Underworld (before 2000)...it's something personal. A little game that I started to discover new tricks a decade and a half after first time playing. Still playing it in 2013.
Do not forget Populous: The Beginning when it comes to spell slinging. Who needs HAVOK physics to enjoy a good tornado ravaging stuff or a volcano decimating your enemies back in those days?

My first multiplayer experience comes from Heroes of Might and Magic III on Hotseat, not fighting games with two controller or arcade with two coins. Best multiplayer experience I give to Monster Hunter Portable 2G/Freedom Unite, played on LAN, and an honorable mention to Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI, for being so much fun even with a team of 75 specialists going against China.

Squaresoft's glorious days past of RPG, with Final Fantasy 7,8,9, Parasite Eve 1(this one leans more towards RPG than the second) and Vagrant Story. All of those not only have good story but great gameplay as well.

Now I'm going back to Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams on my good 'ol fat PS2. The Onimusha franchise never got enough fame to get a HD release...an underrated franchise, so to say.

On my PSP the newest game I play is Gundam Assault Survive and MGS Peace Walker, other than that I use it as an emulator for SNES (Megaman X1 and 2, Fire Emblem 4 and 5, at one time, Magic Knight Rayearth) GBA (Gen 3 Pokemon, Fire Emblem 6-8, and SRW OG2 ver Axel), GBC (Gen 1-2 Pokemon and Metal Gear Solid Ghost Babel) and even MSX (Metal Gear 1 and 2). Analog damage is the main reason why I steer clear of Monster Hunter as of late - that game requires your hardware to be in a real perfect condition to go anywhere far.

...I like The Sims 3, but its chronic crashing and slowness killed it for me. The Sims 3 is the most unrestricted Sims out there (in my brother's save, he made kids all over the city that his save took like an hour to load), and that's why I find it interesting to play.

After the fall of my favorite FPS game, Karma (Revo), I turned towards World of Tanks and World of Warplanes. They are good in their own right, with WoWP just opened it is riddled with problems in need of solving, but I will see what the future holds for it. I rarely am interested in games, but when I sink onto one I stay with it for a long time if not to the bitter end (Like how I did with Revo - I played all the way to the time that there's no one else on the server, on the night before closure).

Nowadays nothing are so attractive to me apart from Visual Novels...heck, I bought AC4 Black Flag on my own money to complete the Assassin's Creed collection and I find it pretty boring after getting the ultimate attack for the Jackdaw (aside for AC4, every single 'new' PC games that I have obtained were mostly, if not all, visual novels, and I read visual novels). The newest game I have would be Pokemon X, with a little help from the local community (i.e. here), retains interest for me. I've returned to Heroes of Might and Magic 3 on the PC for now to piece the stories together. I can only see that backward seems to be the way for gaming...but forward is good for visual novel experience...

I doubt I can get every single thing in one post so I'll leave it here.

P.S. I hate Windows 7 64 bit for not supporting 16bit...............................

cool games there too guys, pingtoryan is parasite eve 2 the one like resident evil ? They should have made that in HD if you ask me anything with resident evil 1-5 although that also that series declined the higher the number went, my first MMO was Lineage 2 then Ragnarok Online then City of Heroes in that order.

I have over 800 original games spanning across multiple consoles all packed away from dreamcast japanese and USA version, sega saturn white and black version, megadrive, snes, nes, n64, gamecube, wii, psx, ps2, ps3, xbox usa and modded UK version, xbox360 went through 2 consoles because fable 2 messed up one lol, gameboy, gameboy colour, gameboy advance, nintendo DSlite, nintendo 3DS XL, Neo geo cdZ, Neo geo pocket, I can't remember if i have anymore packed away but I still got them I never sold them just ran out of space to display them.

does that classify me as hardcore? lol

nawi yeah I too have grandia and xenosaga, was dissapointed in the series though after Grandia Xtreme which just barely made it because of its bonus dungeon that can give you over 100 hours of gameplay in itself, grandia 1 and 2 were awesome.
xenosaga 2 was rubbish but 1 and 3 were good. Its when you mix developers that series go awry.

So story telling, Yeah that's true graphics are decent these days sound even, but the story telling sucks yeah that makes sense and the gameplay mechanics are going down the drain too I'd say. Remake of Final fantasy X and X-2 HD should be fun X had a great story and great everything else. X-2 was more about battle mechanics than storyline but it was made by another developer so go figure, although not as good as X its still some fun to be had especially since its all international version which means monster taming and extra characters and skills and areas to explore.

edit- o yeah and I've gone through 4 PS2's due to breakage and import versions Japanese USA etc.. as I usually used to buy 2 consoles of each type back in the day as a backup in case one breaks while i get it fixed I can still use it lol Yeah and I was being stupid with money as I'm over 16k in debt thats around 30k dollars due to everything mainly computer parts and video game stuff Im unemployed computer technician and need a job bad so i can get the Xbox one and maybe in the future a ps4. but not holding my breath on that console its game line up sucks atm

Yes, Parasite Eve 2 is the one that is perceived as a Resident Evil clone with separate mode for exploring and fighting and added magic (which are VERY scientific...how great is it to cook up a localized nuclear fission to melt some poor creatures' molecules or necrotizing slimes to death?). The replay bonus makes the game rarely boring even after more than ten runs through or so, and there are more difficult modes for those who seeks challenge.

If I recall, Final Fantasy X was among the last works of Square as Squaresoft. By X-2 Square already became Square-Enix...and we know how it went downhill from there.

When you brought up Resident Evil, the first three are rarely boring to play with. The fourth one is too, but to a lesser extent. The fifth one, however, reduced infinity ammo into some good for sale, and has turned into a full-blown action game (even 4 still got horror here and there), among other things like Chainsaw enemy spammage. I can only play it like twice or so before going away from it. It's no wonder why Resident Evil 1 is available on PlayStation Network for $10 (while many other games of the same size cost half that amount) - it's just that good.
The best things seem to be in the PS1-early PS2 era (and any PC games inbetween) when creativity had to be pushed to the extreme due to technological limitations. Like I said before, one does not need HAVOK physics to enjoy a good Tornado, earth splitting and rising, or volcano in PopTB back before 2000.

You have lived a long life, since the dawn of gaming industry - I came to be only in the age of Playstation or so...but my fat PS2 is still running well after almost a decade...while PS3 only lasted for 2 years or so before going yellow light. I do have dual DS lites for trading Pokemon with myself and I think I'll get a 2DS to go with my 3DS XL.

Metal Gear franchise still hold up well to this day, and Assassin's Creed franchise isn't too shabby either. But with games shifting towards more and more online features...I hate it that way. I bought Shogun 2, found out that it requires Steam, I don't bother with it again. I'd say one of the contributing factor to games' reduced 'quality' today is from their increasing reliance on online functions (Hello DLC, we should remember expansion pack we used to buy physically) and the shift towards multiplayer capability.

I love builder games...to name some: SimTower, Caesar III, Pharaoh/Cleopatra, Zeus/Poseidon, Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom, Theme Hospital, Railroad Tycoon (2 Platinum), RollerCoaster Tycoon (2, just for the Roller Coaster designer)...The headache of administering...and the feel when you manage to keep your empire in the impressive state it is...

BTW, the only PS4 game I look forward to is Phantom Pain - to see what will happen to Big Boss. Yes, I've lost most, if not all, interest in AAA games...

nice list Shizusan ! especially the SNES ones (Chrono is my all time snes fav along with ff3).On the N64 Oot was without a doubt THE reason to buy that console besides it´s one of the best games ever. All Rare games on the n64 were brilliant so have to add these here too.the Dark Project games have to be named cause they´re defined what is now known as stealth games. Also nearly all Sid Meier games...especially his earlier ones at Microprose.Though i enjoy games these days i agree with Nawi that todays games try to focus too much on audio/visual and less to tell a good story.I think that japanese developer are more focused on telling really good stories.

I forgot to mention a game I used to play for hours on PC Drakan Order of the flame the fact you could call and ride a dragon that helps you in the game was just epic and to this day still the best Dragon Riding game mix rpg of all time, and sad to see it stopped on the ps2 version Drakan the Ancient gates. Sure it has its problems but this can be fixed in sequels, nothing made with dragons still to this day can match its flight sim style dragon flying and shooting. and when not on the dragon you explore with 3rd person thats just too cool.

Games shouldn't be just about world Graphics, they should be storyline/game mechanics/sound effects music/ things to do and explore/ cool special moves that never get boring/ Pure aesthetics of your character basically everything adds up to how good the game gets. These days we get say 2 or 3etc.. fewer mechanics such as Graphics and good game mechanics or Sound effects but lack storyline out of say 15+ or so aspects games have and should be. I'm an enthusiast perfectionist, to me the best games have it all and done right, decent games have 3 qualities I love about the games Aesthetics like character design, Sound, and Game mechanics If you have game mechanics the game is playable and gameplay is boosted. Sound in games make it more playable and addictive, character designs make it cool and hence more addictive to play. Just some examples for some of you to think about especially game developers think carefully what I said it will help you design better games ;)

I started gaming in the early 90's. Mainly a mix of PC, Gameboy, Mega Drive, Xbox and the Playstation. Most of the ones I mention are probably still active, but I havn't checked them for some time.

Gods - The first pc game I ever remember playing. It was bloody hard. I think I spent days on the first level. I never got to complete it.

Prince of Persia - This one was challenging, the fights were easy, but there were loads of traps that usually got me killed.

Streets of Rage - Awesome street brawler, with cool music to go with it. It was probably the first co-op game I played.

Micro-Machines - I used to cheat on this one. My pc had a button to switch between 50MHz to 8MHz, so I could slow things down in hard areas :)

Wolfenstein 3D/Doom/Quake/Hexen/Unreal Tournament - Unreal was my top favourite, I spent a lot of time on one of the later versions which came with an editor.

Monkey Island - A comical point and click pirate game series by LucasArts (they did other stuff like Star Wars).

Age of Empires - I spent over a thousand hours on this RTS series. I could probably beat campaigns quickly, but I had a lot of fun defending and building a massive army for a final attack.

Warlords Battlecry III - A great RTS game, it had a nice touch of levelling minions and if they died, you could see them at a graveyard!

Warcraft II-III - Another fun RTS series, this one actually guided you through a story, wheras most other RTS would just give little info per level. I wish Blizzard continued the series.

Gran Turismo 1-4 - The series that helped me recognise the names of many cars on the road. GT5 was sadly disappointing, they added an xp leveling system. Apparently there is GT6, but I don't have a PS3 anymore to see if things got better/worse.

Colin McRae Rally/Dirt - One thing Gran Turismo lacked was good rally events, this series was perfect at filling the gap.

Crash Team Racing - Starring Crash Bandicoot, a fun racing game, collecting power boosts, gems etc. The versus mode was the best part!

Soul Blade/Soul Calibur I-III - Awesome weapon combat game. The graphics were amazing too. I was pissed off at III, my memory card became corrupt and I lost everything. I played the later games in the series, they upped the graphics, but they made the campaign ridiculously short.

Resident Evil 1-4 - #3 was my favourite, contantly being chased around by the Nemesis. It is bad being in a city full of zombies and monsters but then you also have to watch out for rockets.

Metal Gear Solid - Awesome stealth series, Rising was pretty fun too. (I played Ground Zeroes last week and I'm looking forward to the Phantom Pain).

Grand Theft Auto I-IV - I spent days playing the demo, even though it had a countdown timer. I got the full game eventually. You could even put the disc into a music player and listen to their tracks! My favourite of the series was Vice City, it reminded me of Scarface. I just wish they release GTA V to pc.

Saints Row III/IV - I avoided this series initially because I thought it was just a GTA clone, I decided to give it a try and was a lot of crazy fun. I still think IV should have been just a big dlc, since your still in the same city.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare - I got over 40k kills in multiplayer, I would have kept playing, but then cheaters/hackers came. I moved onto the next one in the series, same thing happened again. The game developers don't care. I will never buy a CoD game again.

God of War - A brutal hack'n'slash series. To this day, I'm amazed at how they could fit a massive looking world onto one disc (PS2 DVD days).

wow that brings back some memories too. good list there I also played all those except call of duty.

I never bought a nintendo console but I played all the others games and if you liked beyond two souls you should play heavy rain I played more games from sega like streets of rage , strider, the valis series and one thing that I loved is that old games didnt need to have a patch or dlc to enjoy it.

played Heavy rain too, Beyond 2 souls was mainly about storyline and graphics, the gameplay wasn't hardcore or anything it was worth playing through once or twice tops to get the extra scenes, if it had been hardcore can you imagine using Aiden in combat situation and have 2 player co-op using split screen offline or online full screen instead of what it gave us which one just mainly storyline. Heavy rain is better in the sense its more hardcore you can actually die in it and effect the storyline but both games what they have in common is a crap save system where as if you want to start the game again all your data gets deleted, I personally think it should let you save where you want so you can change outcomes without having to play the whole story again.

Hmm. I only really had a PS1 really.

Xenogears was awesome though i never finished it left a few fights but my PS was sent to a better place before i could finish it.

Spiro was awesome too haha. Though i hated the second installment. Damn eggs keep getting stolen and not only that final battle i keep getting docked out. -_-

This really brings back memories of when I was younger. BTW imma only 20 years :P

I really miss those old games they were not as sci-fi or great in graphics but the mentality of 'I can do it' really got me addicted and strived to beat those games and it was great fun. Some games now really spoil players its like 'If you can't win its rubbish game'.
I really hate that mentality though. I mean sure games are suppose to be fun and relaxing, if so find games with simpler physics.
But do not take out the drive that makes people keep trying to win from me I hate that.

Dark souls was a real good wake-up call when I played it. Haha especially the "Prepare to DIE Edition" :D

lol i got 15 years on top of you 35, I was if I remember correctly only 8 or 9 When mario bros on NES came out. There was a movie called the wizard which had super mario 3 for NES in it that caused me to go hyper over the game when it came out lol. I saw kids play Megaman on TV gameshows and I played the same level as they did in real life I did it without dying, but I must admit the older I got some reason I got worst at games, my peak was when I was 24, everything after that meh, guess reaction times are getting bad for me, and patience to learn games like I used to isn't there anymore.

Although saying that I found playing The last of us on ps3 was my wake up, for some reason I remembered what it was like to play a decent game when I played that game, and I was good at it. Perhaps over the years I just got bored of most games and only few could tickle my fancy.

Actually back then in the 80's and 90's and early 2000 when you play the games when they first come out the graphics were amazing, now that we are used to HD and 1080p gameplay everything else just doesn't look that good anymore, Some games should definitely have gotten a HD makeover
Valkyrie profile 1 , 2
Xenogears, Xenosaga series
Final Fantasy 6 , 7 and 8

those just some off the top of my head. Its all about evolution in technology which determines the graphics and how you see them at the present time.

Hmm i kinda agree some games that deserve a good remake do not get that chance....

Makes me disappointed but I guess from some points of view newer stuff are more enticing compared to what we had before.

That's because newer is unknown, but the unknown doesn't necessarily mean its going to be good, thus why older games that we know that are good are always going to be better, reminds me the 80-90's music is better than most of the music nowadays with few exceptions being decent. Another point of view is kids born after 1999 might appreciate newer games and music than the old ones that they didn't grow up on. I suppose some of the excitement is nostalgia and you will also get that on newer games.

Haha only the older peeps will appreciate the pre 2000 year stuff...

Like u said though tastes change.
To be honest I can rly understand some of these so called new stuff why is it good kind of feeling :P
