There's a thread in the H-Anime section, so I thought I'd create one here. Hope it's not a duplicate of the posts in the cafe thread.
Mine happened around five years ago when I watched the AkaSaka anime, which was a little ecchi but did not reach H-levels. Of course, the anime famously went with the

and it made me really mad because I was supporting the other main girl, and all of her flags seemed to have occurred. Extremely dissatisfied with the ending, I went and googled the game to see what the other ending was like, and came across a few resources such as a walkthrough and some CG of the MC and the other girl kissing, as well as their wedding. Many other folks in online forums were raging about the series like I was, and one of them bemoaned what a pity it was that the anime didn't follow the other girl's ending, which he found superior in every way. All that rage made me seek out the game for a better ending.
I actually went and bought the game from Feng's website for a good chunk of cash, and played through it. Got one ending of them hugging, and another of them kissing, but couldn't find the wedding scene after many tries due to my limited Japanese. I kept trying, and finally got the wedding CG. The credits rolled and all was well with the world. I had finally found the real and proper ending to the anime, in which the girl I supported won.
And then, the credits cleared, with another choice left to click. Unlike the earlier choices though, this button was pink. I had no idea what it meant, so I clicked on it, and...
You guessed it. I encountered my first H-scene. I closed my eyes out of instinct and clicked as fast as I could to get through it. It was a pretty long scene, and no matter how fast I clicked, it was not quick enough to cut off all the sound from my headphones. I was in shock when it ended, thinking, "What the hell was that?!"
It was only a few years later that I understood that the AkaSaka ending was actually a form of NTR, and was a marketing tactic to hook the audience into buying the game. I was and still am an avid reader and occasional writer of fanfiction, which I turn to whenever I come across an ending that I don't like in a great story. It's the same concept with eroge anime - we're supposed to like the other girls and feel dissatisfied with the ending, except that we can turn to a visual novel for an alternative ending with CG and animation rather than trawling through the net to find high-quality fanfics that will never have any pictures.
I still buy a few games every now and then if I have sufficient cash to spare, and I don't really react in shock nowadays even though some very explicit scenes still make me mash the left mouse button. Needless to say, I never looked at AkaSaka or any other eroge-based anime in the same light ever again.
