At the same time, a strange family moves into a long abandoned mansion in the region. After supposedly visiting this strange family, the fashionable Shimizu Megumi goes missing and the entire village goes out in search for her.
I hate Hi10p, my home cinema player doesn't support that sadly. There is not even trick in it at least. Looking like I'm gonna watch it through the HDMI.

Re: [Elysium] Shiki [Bluray]
Well, it does give superior video quality. Of course, hardware players are very slow to adapt and will likely not support it for the next couple years. :(
Best way is to hook up a PC to the TV and play that way, but that's not always possible.

Re: [Elysium] Shiki [Bluray]
Shiki is a unique anime, I will watch it, no matter how. I bought a laptop to watch Hi10p and FLAC animes through my home cinema. I don't understand why encoders uses Hi10p and FLAC. I'm not underestimating them, but why? If you can't watch it as HD, why would you encode it that way?

Re: [Elysium] Shiki [Bluray]
Hi10p reduces filesize by around 30%. It also takes care of the banding issues anime often have, resulting in overall better quality. Mind you, a well done 8bit encode is on par with a carelessly done 10bit one. While it makes things easier and potentially better, it's not magic.
FLAC is mostly used because fans demand it. In theory it provides the best quality for the lowest bitrate (DTS-MA anyone?), but in reality most people don't have the equipment to distinguish it from a high bitrate AAC encode. Trying to explain that to people is a hopeless endeavor, however, so highest quality it is. Given how cheap bandwidth is and every decent player supports FLAC, it's not much of an issue, though.

Re: [Elysium] Shiki [Bluray]
You made your point about Hi10p, I agree that Hi10p is devastating revolution for encoders. I have a hope that I'll be able to play Hi10p one day. Well, I'm looking forward to do that. However, I like Flac it promises plenty much quality with more than stereo, but it is the foreign one for media players. Like you said all people want to do is have it in best, lol.

Re: [Elysium] Shiki [Bluray]
Great news Elysium subs released the final volume 2 of Shiki in best quality 1080p.. Check it out:
Apart from the fact that they let their domain expire, I made a conscious decision to keep CGi's 1080p back then - I may not remember the exact reasons, but they're probably related to CGi's version looking slightly less terrible.

Re: [Elysium] Shiki [Bluray]
Corcoro I have three questions for you:
1) Which is the very best version of Shiki on the net?
2) Do you think that Elysium subs will release a 1080p Hi10p version of Shiki?
3) Which group is the best for Shiki (DHD, a-S, Daman, Forge)?

Re: [Elysium] Shiki [Bluray]
1) Probably CGi, though that one's looking pretty bad too.
2) I don't know, but I doubt it.
3) DHD has terrible banding, Daman is only 720p, and Forge's filtering killed a lot of background detail and lines. It's not about who is the best, but who's the least terrible. For the dual audio version I decided to go with DHD.

Re: [Elysium] Shiki [Bluray]
Or you check first if there are any other missing files because it's a major bother to replace them one-by-one.
